As for technique, it just takes time. This was probably my third or fourth version of it! I kept trying to make it better each time... So that part sucks but it's worth it!

Sorry to reply so late!
I used colored pencils to draw it, and then I inverted the colors.
It was originally in pinks and purples and reds, but I really enjoyed how it looked with all the greens and such.
