Oh in this wonderfull picture you just need the insane use of 1 element(highlights).To separate the character a bit from the bg,because it looks a bit like 1 part character bg,use the hightlights.The spots that will help you manage the separation would be metalic surfaces,the wing,the hair,and clothing//skin .I know it´s probably a lot more work to do because you would have to start over the picture u curently have and u probably were tired with that great detailed coloring.
The advantage of using vector,modified vectoring,or my weird dual vector technique is that you can re-use your defined layers to give the highlights without the use of a brush.So adding the last details won´t take you a long time.Great work at the picture,don´t worry,I know you really tried judging by the complex coloring you used.I would also probably left it like it is XD .

And I love the way you draw Cloud. XD Still the same gruff and handsome looking guy, but has a cute side to him when you draw him. XD
