The anime has a little bit more blood, but not that much more. It's only rated so high because of the complex story line, use of death gods, Kira claiming to be god and a few cuss words... Mostly damn....I don't think too many others...

Ummm you have to read book 13!!!!! You find out what L's real name is!!!! Plus some things that were unclear are cleared. You see the first version of Death Note and also read about how the author got the idea for it!
If you're going through withdraw... Watch the anime. It matches up really well, except the ending(last 2 epis) which is TRUELY EPIC!!!! I love the ending for the anime waaaaayyyy more than the ending for the manga.
