Yep, this was a reference. This was my first Al fanart, so I was nervous about drawing him! I was so used to him being a suit of armor! Mainly, I use references for skin and hair color.
Ooo definitely get one. They're worth it! Mine's pretty small, but there are some pretty large and high quality ones out there too! My animation teacher has a beautiful tablet!
