pretty much like a pen only no ink but graphite. the eraser normally can be pushed down so more lead comes out. It's refillable but you need the right kind of graphite for it. The graphite is kinda weak but it is pretty good for writing with. It doesn't leave lead shavings and it leaves smooth lines so it's pretty good for little pencil drawings.
