Beautiful! Positively spectacular! ^o^ Let me start with the few tiny things that I can offer advice on. In contrast to the rest of the colors and features here, the eyes look a tad dull by comparison here. If you were to make the iris a bit smaller (showing more of the whites of the eyes) and darken the black used for the pupils, it would look much, much better, as well as add a sense of focus to the character's gaze. By darkening the pupils, they'll contrast more with the green of the iris, further adding to this effect (you want the pupil and iris to look separate, rather than gradate into each other). In addition, when doing the shine on the hair, you may want to try jostling that line of shimmer a bit, since hair is made-up of locks and clumps where many different individual hairs group together. Or, if this character has particularly thick & straight hair, you can keep it the way it is and it would look perfect. But if you do, make sure to add some darkened areas, especially to the glow of the hair's shimmer that are in those areas, to places where shadows are cast. If you were to darken the shimmer in spots like the space between her face & shoulder, or the area behind her back with toe bow (I believe it's called an "obi"?), it would make the hair look extremely 3D and well rendered. ^_^ As a matter of fact, that'd probably be better than that first option of jostling the shimmer. OK, now that I'm done critiquing the parts that could be improved a little, let me get to the stuff you did well on. ^^ I must say, I'm extremely impressed by this pic. You did an excellent, excellent job, and you need to be commended for it. =D Despite what I said about the eyes, they're still very beautiful. (I'm a sucker for green eyes...) And despite the changes I suggested for the hair, it still looks spectacular. You captured the highlights and the shimmer perfectly! I have an extremely hard time doing that. The hair's texture, shape and rich color are all excellent. You really made it look soft and silky... But if I can make one more suggestion, you might want to make the scalp a little higher next time. The bangs look great here, but the scalp (the top of her head) looks a little low compared to how far up her bangs go before they fall back down. And if you couldn't already tell, I'm loving the color here. I love the soft, shiny royal-green you used for the kimono, as well as the lovely emerald for the eyes. The gold trimming on the kimono was also a nice touch. ^_^ The yellow in her skin-tone was very well-done and makes it look very natural and soft. And above most everything else, I love that rich, vibrant red you used for the cushion. It contrasts very well with the greens and browns. Plus, the way you drew it makes it look like a real cushion. Oh, and I love her shoes. ^^ This is a positively beautiful portrait, my friend. You've left me very, very impressed. I know Natsume's not your character, but will you be drawing any more pictures of her sometime soon? I'd love to see more of this character! And with those few minor tweaks I suggested, she'd look even better! If I may make a suggestion, something you might want to try when creatively working with characters is to try drawing them in a different outfit, weather or not it fits the character or their setting (I do it all the time with my characters, drawing them dressed as fire-fighters, office-workers, prisoners, soldiers, mechanics, etc.). For example, I think Natsume would look great in an Arabian kind of costume (like something from Aladdin). The kimono looks great, but I can imagine her in the same royal green, but wearing the outfit of a belly-dancer or the like (plus, I rather enjoy pics of belly-dancers anyway =^^=). But it's up to you how you want to experiment with the outfit, so you decide what she'd look best in. Anyway, like I said, I'd love to see more of this character, and I can't wait to see more from you in general! Excellent work, and I hope you submit again soon! b^_^
