This is a tough question to answer . . . A prime example of a lose-lose situation. I mean, either way it seems you might end up losing your friend, to be blunt(I am sorry if it's too blunt). I guess . . . If it helps one of you guys to tell, then you should. Like, if something is seriously wrong with your friend, and if you tell someone that friend might hate you for it despite your best intentions, then it would still be the right thing to tell. If it's something you need to tell that friend, and you don't know how they'll take it, but it's really hurting you to keep it from them, then it's still a good idea to say something, you know?

From what I'm getting, staying silent is just making things worse. You don't have to take my word for it, since I'm no professional, but this is my best answer.
