somehow the words you used reminded me of what my wise bff told me when I was once desperate for a date in middle school. she said something like this, "If you keep guarding your heart and wait long enough, your prince charming will come for you and whisk you off your feet"
I stopped becoming so desperate for love after that, and just stayed proud being single (^u^)/
