Have fun! Sometimes i've managed to get that method to work really well, and other times less so.

^^ Experiment with adding blur and overlays, and try changing the order of the layers to see what happens ^^

Thanks for the comment ^^ don't worry, you don't need to use that spoiler text. I agree with your comment, perhaps it is just the way Gimp works but I couldn't get the text to be much clearer than it is. I'll try something different next time. Trying new things is the best way to learn *smiles*

I wrote out the text in black, then duplicated it. On the lower of those layers I blurred it, then with the other one I think I inverted the colours then set it to overlay. Something like that anyway ^^; i'm not all that good at explaining as I usually just play around with it until I am relatively happy! I hope that helped <3

I like smudging scans too; it makes them pretty X3 the font you used is very nice! as for the text as a whole, I personally think that you should've chosen a different blend mode (I'm not sure what the equivalent of that feature is in GIMP). that way the opacity would be a bit higher and the text would be easier to read when it's in thumbnail size.
