You're totally right about Studio Ghibli, they have given us absolutely amazing work over the years, and I'm not ready for them to be over. My favourite movie is The Wind Rises, hands down. But, I also like Howl's Moving Castle a lot. All the movies are really good though.
Watch Arriety, it's a good movie.
When I saw this post I immediately had to go and check it out, because it just didn't add up...
It was a quick decision it seems, but it might be a very wise one for which Japanese people are known for.
As far as I knew Studio Ghibli didn't have any financial problems, especially after the last two movies, but it seems that following the retirement of Hayao Miyazaki they will have to reconstruct some things. They probably had some problems over management, so it will take some time before they sort it out.
Still it is a sad news, knowing that it might close down, if not now then one day.
Thank you for sharing this post though. I, as a big Ghibli fan myself, can only say thanks for what they have done and one "thanks" from all the fans over the world is more than enough to show that huge scream of gratitude.
I found this link floating around on Tumblr, in regards to the "Ghibli Closure".
Also, my favorite Ghibli movies would have to be "Spirited Away" and definitely "Howl's Moving Castle". I remember seeing them on TV when they got their chances to debut, and I loved them so much and I could watch them all over again~
I've heard talk about it closing down. Maybe its not true (I'm just saying that because I hope its not Q^Q) And I saw trailer of their upcoming film and its CG and it doesn't look good...
My favorite movie was Kiki's Delivery Service and Totoro (that one is part of my childhood) Whisper of the Heart and Howl's Moving Castle is pretty good too.
I don't think Ponyo was inspired from that Disney movie the Little Mermaid if thats what you meant. It was loosely based on the old fairy tale The Little Mermaid which the Disney movie was based and named after.
I've only seen two Ghibli movies. (SHAAAAAAAAME!) The first one I saw was Princess Mononoke, but my favorite so far is Spirited Away. I've reserved Totoro from the library, so that'll be my third.
As for Ghibli closing down, I don't think that was a finalized decision-- just a possibility. Still, if that happens, it would be a very sad thing.
Call it karma. Call it luck. Me, I just don't give a... BOUNCE!

This is sad day. Only thing worse is if they have Funimation close down.

I've seen "Spirited Away" and "Castle In The Sky". They were my favorites.
