Great guide, thanks for making it! One question: how do you make lines end at a sharp point? When I draw the lines, they end in a round and blunt end. Many thanks!
I have PS and a mac. Do you think buying SAI would be worth it if I had to also buy crossovers or bootcamp? I've heard It's much better for lineart and general coloring, but the entire thing comes across as a bit pricey...
Great Turtorial. I love it and it helps me use Sai better,
But I got up to the Hair Coloring 2. Where u have to shade, and the brush I have is messed up. It doesn't workwith the settings you have it as. Like if the hair was blue, and I'm tring to shade and have a darker blue set up, when I use brush it doesn't do anything. ;A; do you know how I can fix it?
oh yeah, you know how you said the selection tool leaves tiny pixels along th edges behind? well you can prevent that by checking 'Precise' under wand tool options instead of the default 'colour difference'
But then again I prefer using brush and eraser just because I'm more familiar with it.
Also I think the precise option might only work on line work layers...
Wooh awesome tutorial! very detailed and well explained. I have a question, may I add this tutorial and your other two tutorials to my Tutorial World? ;D Just featuring tutorials on the world - making a big list for tutorials ^^

Thank you for making this so much!!!
I just got a new wacom tablet for christmas....
and I had no idea how to get it to work right.
II"m using photoshop, so it took a little longer ...
but this was great!
Before, I din't know how to do anything 'cept play around on MSpaint.
which I hate.
So thanx a lot!
ur a lifesaver!
note to you: i read your manual before the otaku and it started me on my own digital art journey
*stares wishfully into the sky* mabye one day i can colour like you...
im glad you continued the manual!
me so far-
the only digital art i've submitted is my avatar (at the moment) and my "a boy named 'alice" cover...
i will try my best!
-Rala-chan
ahh sorry xD
meh. my typing is always >___> yeah..
LOL xD
D; i would like to make the pictures bigger~ but most times i like to keep everything on one page? i dunno it just seems more organised like that. instead if it dragging on for ages
>W< but yeah ill take it into account :D
ohh~ that might just be, getting used to colour picking for your personal preference? >W< i was like that at first, but then it goes through practice i think :D
I already knew most, but maybe the next pages will be more interesting for me ;)
The example pics should be a bit larger, perhaps on extra pages between the explanations.
Also there are some spelling mistakes.
But apart from that it's nice work.
And it's so true, that without music you can't draw or color anything.
Btw, I use the freeware-program Gimp, not one of the programs you listed. But it's good to know, that my coloration style (which is in large part similar to yours), would also work with SAI.
THIS IS THE COOLEST TUTORIAL EVA!!
lol Seriously it looks so awesome. >:3
Man I wanna color like this! I'm going to try and use these tips. Hopefully I'll be able to improve my coloring.
The funny thing is, I already do all this stuff you are showing me D: I can't seem to get the color as nice as you though! D8<
I think it might be because I have Photoshop Elements, and Photoshop has a different sort of "texture" in it, that makes the colors less soft compared to SAI.
I'm thinking that the whole issue is that I need to use SAI instead xD
This is a nifty tutorial, very nice indeed ^^ I've tried doing similar things with GIMP, but i'm not all that good yet, plus my lineart is cruddy, haha.
;w; a tablet is just a "mouse" but designed like a pen so you can use it easier.
at times i draw the lineart on the computer.
other times i scan in my drawings with a Scanner (dont use a camera ever!!)
you can tell the difference usually in my art.
since scanned lines are less neat ;ww;
Uh sorry, can we draw your art by hand with just a normal piece of paper and then just picture your art then download it to your tablet? Because I'm not very good on drawing stuff on computers very sloppy nyaa~
I also Have a question did you draw the art i the tablet or you did it by had with normal paper? If you did do it in normal paper did you took a picture of you art and download it to your tablet and then you start doing the color and stuff nyaa~ Sorry I'm asking alot of questions... But just to be sure becuz I'm having my b-day soon.. I want to have it!
Arigato!!!! Demo, I won't be needing this because my stupid Odo-san won't buy me it. So I'm just gonna stay with my own art skills... I will be submitting my art on December please support Lulu-chan!
I would say, you just have to try them out and see which one you prefer.
i don't know what to recommend right now, since i havent seen how you draw with a tablet xDD
i find method 3 the best (which i have yet to upload xD)
Okay so...would you recommed if to draw the lineart by hand or just scan it lightly so the color goes over easier? I´m still lost about those...and ack! I own none of the things you need!! ...except for the music part...wah!
I´m already falling behind, ha ha ha!
Yah...I actually had to go find software for my wacom one! O_O It was frustrating cause I had one before it that was pressurized and I knew it was supposed to be...
I was just wondering cause most of your lineart is very thin!
thanks for the tutorial, I love your cg coloring and digital coloring is something I've been trying to figure out. I will ask this, if you digitally do lineart (which I assume you do as well from "line art 2") is your tablet pressurized?
The music part is o true! I use photoshop and will end with over 15 layers per drawing! AND it takes for EVER!!!! This is awsome! I like how you are listing the materials needed for the tutorial Amazing cover by the way!
