"We're cursed. Each generation has 12 members of our family that's possessed by the vengeful spirits of the Chinese Zodiac," Shino nodded. "When hugged by a member if the opposite sex or if we become weak we change into our animal forms." I was kind of glad that Shino had changed back to normal. It was weird seeing a husky talk.
Kai was smiling. "Awesome!!!" He didn't seem to be phased one bit by what Shino was explaining to us.
Shino smiled. It was a sad sort of smile. A smile that told me he didn't get accepted by a lot of people. I wondered then if he had any friends outside of his family that were cursed, or if they kept to themselves because of the curse.
Well, I wasn't about to judge them on something they couldn't change. The three of them seemed to be good people, and that was all that really mattered. And, they were good to Kai, and kai seemed to trust them.
"Well?" Shino asked, prompting me to speak.
I shook my head to clear my thoughts. "It's all very strange and a little hard to believe. But you seem like really good people, so who am I to judge you on something you have no control over?"
The three of them looked a little surprised. "That's it?" Kaoru asked. "You aren't going to tell us how much of freaks we are and storm off?"
My heart dropped at the thought of people having actually done that to them. "Of course not!" I exclaimed. "So you turn into animals. People have had it far worse. You guys are pretty awesome. I would love it if we could be friends."
