Chapter 6: Warped Rematch
Leo had wanted a rematch with Luke, but he didn't want it to be like this. Not when Luna was in potential danger. It didn't seem like Leo had a choice though. In order to get to Luna, Leo had to beat Luke. Both Leo and Luke drew five cards from their decks. Leo looked at his hand. He had Morphtronic Celfon, Morphtransition, Power Break, Rocket Pilder, and Break! Draw!. Not the best hand to start with, but it was what he had to work with. Both players set their life points to 4000 and the duel began.
"I shall go first!" Luke announced in his monotone voice as he drew a card. "I summon Alien Shocktrooper in Attack Mode!"
After placing the card in his duel disk, a green and black centaur-like reptile carrying a sword appeared on the field in front of Luke.
"Next I shall set one card face-down." Luke announced. "I end my turn."
The duel wasn't starting out too well. Luke had already summoned a monster with 1900 ATK and had a Trap card lying in wait. No matter what though, Leo knew that he had to this duel.
"My turn!" Leo announced as he drew his first card.
Leo looked at the card he drew, Morphtronic Magnen. Not the best card for that situation. Leo began to panic, but than remembered what was at stake. If he lost his cool in this duel, he would never rescue Luna. Leo decided to take a gamble.
"I summon Morphtronic Celfon in Attack Mode!" Leo announced as he placed a card in his duel disk.
A giant yellow cellphone appeared on the field in front of Leo and unfolded into a robot. Celfon only had 100 ATK, but Leo hoped that its effect could change the tied of the duel.
"Next I activate the effect Morphtronic Celfon!" Leo announced. "Whichever number on Morphtronic Celfon's chest lights up is the number of cards I pick up from the top of the deck! And if one of the cards is a Morphtronic monster, I can Special Summon it to the field!"
Each of the six numbered buttons on Celfon's chest began to light up and turn off until finally the light landed on the number four. Leo took the top four cards from his deck and looked at them. The fourth card he picked up was Morphtronic Slingen. Leo suddenly found a way to turn things around.
"I Special Summon Morphtronic Slingen in Attack Mode!" Leo announced.
A large, plastic slingshot with a green band appeared on the field and unfolded into a robot.
"Now I activate Morphtronic Slingen's effect!" Leo announced. "By tributing one monster I control, I can destroy one card on my opponent's side of the field! So I tribute Morphtronic Celfon to destroy Alien Shocktrooper!"
Slingen raised its arms into a V-position. Celfon grabbed the green band connecting Slingen's arms and placed it behind its back. Celfon than pulled itself back as far as the band would stretch and than catapulted itself into Alien Shocktrooper. The alien reptile was destroyed in the resulting explosion. Leo rejoiced.
"I activate my Trap, Birthrite!" Luke announced. "With this Trap I can Special Summon a Normal Monster from the Graveyard! I Special Summon Alien Shocktrooper!"
Leo's joy turned back into despair as the alien creature reappeared on the field in front of Luke.
"It is pointless to resist!" Luke proclaimed in his monotone. "Soon you will loose and be taken to the meteor, where you will be converted to serve the great one!"
"Not a chance!" Leo shouted.
Leo didn't know who this great one Luke was talking about was, nor did he care. The only thing he cared about was saving Luna. Leo took a deep breath and turned his attention back to the duel. He looked at the cards in his hand.
"I set two cards facedown and end my turn!" Leo announced as he placed Morphtransition and Power Break into his duel disk.
"My turn!" Luke announced as he drew his next card. "I summon Marauding Captain in Attack Mode!"
The same armor clad warrior from Leo's previous duel with Luke appeared next to Alien Shocktrooper.
"When Marauding Captain is Normal Summoned, I can Special Summon a level four or lower monster from my hand!" Luke explained. "I Special Summon Jutte Fighter!"
A short little man wearing glasses appeared on the field next to Marauding Captain. Tied to the little man's back was an old grenade that looked to be from medieval Japan.
"Now I Tune the level Alien Shocktrooper and the level three Marauding Captain into the level two Jutte Fighter!" Luke announced. Jutted Fighter transformed into two rings made of green light, which surrounded Luke's other two monsters, turning them into balls of white light. As this happened, Luke chanted: "Spirits of nature now come together! Cry out for the king of the forest! Synchro Summon! Roar! Naturia Leodrake!"
In a burst of white light, a large lion with a green body, orange face and front paws, and red flower petals for a mane appeared on Luke's side of the field. Naturia Leodrake had 3000 ATK, way more powerful than anything Leo had on the field.
"Naturia Leodrake, attack Morphtronic Slingen!" Luke announced. "Nature's Roar!"
The great lion roared, sending a sonic blast towards Leo's monster.
"I activate my Trap, Morphtransition!" Leo announced. "I change Morphtronic Slingen to Defence Mode and negate Leodrake's attack!"
Morphtronic Slingen folded back into a large, purple slingshot. A transparent barrier appeared around Slingen, blocking Leodrake's roar.
"I end my turn!" Leo announced.
Leo had just barely managed to save himself the last turn. Leo looked at his hand. There was nothing in it that could beat Leodrake. Leo prayed that the next card he drew would be a card that could turn things around.
"My turn!" Leo announced as he drew his next card.
Leo looked at the card and smiled.
"I summon Morphtronic Remoten in Attack Mode!" Leo announced as he placed the card he drew in his duel disk.
A large white remote control-like device appeared on the field next to Slingen. Little arms and legs popped out of the remote as two green circles appeared on its black screen.
"Next I Tune my level four Morphtronic Slingen into my level three Morphtronic Romoten to Synchro Summon Power Tool Dragon!" Leo announced. Remoten transformed into three rings of green light, which surrounded Slingen, turning it into four balls of white light. As this happened, Leo chanted: "Docking strength with courage to protect world peace! Synchro Summon! Envoy of love and justice, Power Tool Dragon!"
In a burst of light, Leo's yellow and grey mechanical dragon appeared on the field. Power Tool Dragon's 2300 ATK was no match for Naturia Leodrake's 3000, but Leo hoped that Power Tool Dragon's effect could change that.
"Now I activate Power Tool Dragon's effect, which lets me add one random Equip Spell from my deck to my hand!" Leo announced.
A card popped out of Leo's deck. Leo looked at the card and saw that it was Double Tool C&D. Leo remembered how he had screwed up using that card in his last duel. Leo couldn't afford another screw up, not when Luna might be in danger. Leo looked at the other cards in his hand. Aside from Double Tool C&D, he also had Rocket Pilder and Break! Draw!. Suddenly, Leo got an idea.
"First I equip Power Tool Dragon with Double Tool C&D!" Leo announced.
In an instant, Power Tool Dragon's back-hoe scope claw turned into a circular saw blade, while the jackhammer attachment on its left arm turned into a drill. Power Tool Dragon's ATK rose from 2300 to 3300.
"Next I equip Power Tool Dragon with Break! Draw!" Leo announced, placing another equip card into his duel disk.
A large card depicting a warrior standing over a slain dragon appeared behind Power Tool Dragon.
"Power Tool Dragon, attack Naturia Leodrake!" Leo commanded. "Crafty Break!"
Power Tool Dragon sliced into Leodrake's face, shattering it into triangles of gold light.
Luke's life points dropped from 4000 to 3700. Leo noticed that when Leodrake was destroyed, Luke didn't even flinch. It was like dueling a statue.
"Now the effect of Break! Draw! lets me draw a new card when Power Tool Dragon destroys a monster!" Leo announced as he drew another card.
Leo looked at the card and saw it was Morphtronic Videon. He knew that it would come in handy during his next turn.
"I end my turn!" Leo announced. Power Tool Dragon's ATK dropped back to 2300
"My turn!" Luke announced.
Leo didn't like how the duel was going. Sure he had the upper hand, but there was something completely wrong. The person Leo was dueling wasn't Luke. Sure he looked like Luke, and even dueled like Luke, but none of the personality was there. There was no spark. It was like dueling a mindless doll.
"I activate the Spell card, The Warrior Returning Alive!" Luke announced. "This card lets me add a Warrior-Type monster from my Graveyard to my hand! I return Marauding Captain to my hand. Next I summon Marauding Captain in Attack Mode!"
The warrior reappeared on the field in front of Luke.
"Next I Special Summon Tune Warrior with Marauding Captain's effect!" Luke announced.
A warrior in red speaker adorned armor appeared next to Marauding Captain. Leo knew what was coming next.
"Next I Tune the level three Marauding Captain into the level three Tune Warrior to Synchro Summon Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth!" Luke announced. As Tune Warrior transformed into rings of green light and surrounded Marauding Captain, turning him into balls of white light, Luke chanted: "Spirits of Earth now come together! Cry out for the crusader of justice! Synchro Summon! Charge forth! Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth!"
Gaia Knight appeared on the field in a burst of light. Leo knew that Luke was one step closer to summoning his strongest monster, Gaia Drake, the Universal Force. All Luke needed was to draw Miracle Synchro Fusion. Leo suddenly became afraid.
"Now I equip Gaia Knight with Black Pendant, which increases its ATK by 500!" Luke announced.
A necklace strung with purple beads and adorned with a black gemstone appeared around Gaia Knight's neck. Gaia Knight's ATK rose to 3100.
"Gaia Knight, attack Power Tool Dragon!" Luke commanded. "Spiral Lance!"
The knight began charging at Power Tool dragon on its horse. Leo gritted his teeth.
"I send Break! Draw! to the Graveyard to protect Power Tool Dragon from destruction!" Leo announced.
The card depicting the warrior over the slain dragon moved in front of Power Tool Dragon, blocking the Knight's lance and shattering. Leo's life points dropped from 4000 to 3200, but Power Tool Dragon was safe.
"Now the effect of Double Tool C&D kicks in!" Leo announced. "The monster that attacks a card equipped with Double Tool C&D is destroyed at the end of the Damage Step!"
Power Tool Dragon drove its drill through Gaia Knight's chest. Gaia Knight shattered into triangles of gold light.
"When Black Pendant is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, the opponent takes 500 points of damage!" Luke announced in a cold monotone.
The gemstone on Gaia Knight's necklace exploded and turned into purple lightning, which hit Leo, dropping his life points from 3200 to 2700. Leo flinched as the lightning hit him.
"I set one card facedown and end my turn!" Luke announced as he placed one more card in his duel disk.
"My turn!" Leo announced drawing his next card.
The card Leo drew was Morphtronic Boomboxen. Leo looked at the rest of the cards in his hand. He still had Morphtronic Videon in his hand.
"I summon Morphtronic Videon in Attack Mode!" Leo announced.
A large digital camera appeared on the field and unfolded into a robot.
"Next I activate the effect of Power Tool Dragon to add one random Equip Spell from my deck to my hand!" Leo announced.
Another card popped out of Leo's deck. Leo looked at the new card and smiled.
"Now I equip Morphtronic Videon with Power Pickaxe!" Leo announced.
Videon's right arm changed into an orange pickaxe like attachment.
"Morphtronic Videon gains 800 extra ATK for every card equipped to it while in Attack Mode!" Leo explained. "So Videon's ATK becomes 1800!"
"Now I activate the effect of Power Pickaxe!" Leo announced. "By removing one card in my opponent's Graveyard from play, Videon gains 500 ATK until the end of the turn. I remove Gaia Knight, the Force of Earth!"
The Gaia Knight card popped out of the Graveyard slot on Luke's duel disk. Videon's ATK rose to 2300. Leo was quite pleased with himself. He had stopped Luke from summoning Gaia Drake. Not that it mattered, since Luke's field was wide open for a direct attack. Just two attacks and he could finally go look for Luna.
"Power Tool Dragon, attack Luke directly!" Leo commanded.
"I activate my Trap card!" Luke announced. "Negate Attack! Your Battle Phase has ended!"
A strange vortex appeared in front of Luke and repelled Power Tool Dragon as it charged to strike Luke. In his eagerness to finish off Luke and find Luna, Leo completely forgot about Luke's face-down card.
"I end my turn!" Leo announced bitterly.
With the end of the turn, Videon's ATK dropped back to 1800, while Power Tool Dragon's ATK dropped back to 2300.
"My turn!" Luke announced drawing his next card. "First I activate Card of Sanctity, which lets both of us draw until we have six cards!"
Leo looked at the two cards he drew. Another Morphtronic Celfon and Morphtronic Magnen Bar. Nothing that could really help him.
"Next I activate the Spell card Heavy Storm!" Luke announced. "All Spell and Trap cards on the field are destroyed!"
A heavy wind began to blow in the hallway the duelists were standing in. Suddenly Leo remembered a Trap of his own that he set during his first turn.
"Not so fast!" Leo shouted. "I activate the Trap, Power Break! By sending three Equip Spells from the field and/or Graveyard to the deck while Power Tool Dragon is on the field, I can inflict 500 points of damage to my opponent for each card! I send Double Tool C&D, Power Pickaxe, and Break! Draw! back to the deck!"
As Leo retuned the three cards to his deck, a red energy formed around Power Tool Dragon. The robotic dragon raised its left arm into the air, sending a bolt of red lightning into the sky. The lightning bolt came down and hit Luke, dropping his life points from 3700 to 2200. Leo noticed that Luke didn't even flinch when the lightning hit him. True the lightning was only a hologram, but most duelists flinch anyway when hit with a direct attack like that. It was as if Luke was asleep.
"I summon Dark Blade in Attack Mode!" Luke coldly announced.
A knight in black and silver armor appeared on the field in front of Luke.
"Next I activate the Spell card, Double Summon!" Luke announced. "This card allows me to conduct another Normal Summon this turn! I summon Dark Resonator in Attack Mode!"
A short demon like monster wearing black robes and a grey hemet appeared on the field holding a tuning fork.
"Next I Tune the level four Dark Blade into the level three Dark Resonator to Synchro Summon Scrap Archfiend!" Luke announced. As Dark Resonator changed into three rings of green light that encircled Dark Blade, changing it into four balls of white light, Luke chanted: "Spirits of vengeance now come together! Cry out for the iron destroyer! Synchro Summon! Arise! Scrap Archfiend!"
The scrap metal demon appeared on the field in a burst of light. Leo suddenly became very worried. Without any Equip Spells, he couldn't protect Power Tool Dragon.
"Scrap Archfiend, attack Power Tool Dragon!" Luke commanded. "Rusty Claw!"
With one slash of the demon's claws, Power Tool Dragon was destroyed. Leo's most powerful monster was shattered, and with it was Leo's hopes of winning.
"It is over!" Luke coldly proclaimed. "Submit, and become a servant of the great one!"
Leo stood frozen, feeling helpless. He didn't see anyway out of his current predicament. He thought about placing his hand over his deck to surrender. Than Leo thought about Luna, and about what terrible thing might be happening to her at that moment. He couldn't give up. He wouldn't.
"I'm not giving up!" Leo shouted. "My turn!"
Leo drew his next card and prayed for a miracle. In the instant Leo looked at the card, hope rose up within him. Leo looked at the rest of his hand and got an idea.
"I summon Morphtronic Boomboxen in Attack Mode!" Leo announced.
A red boom box appeared on the field and unfolded into a robot.
"Next I equip Morphtronic Videon with Rocket Pilder!" Leo announced. "Videon's ATK rises back to 1800!"
A giant rocket attached itself to Videon's right arm.
"Next I equip Morphtronic Boomboxen with Axe of Despair!" Leo announced as he played the last card he drew in his duel disk. "Boomboxen's gains 1000 ATK!"
An axe with a sinisterly carved handle appeared in front of Boomboxen. Boomboxen grabbed the axe and his ATK rose to 2200.
"Morphtronic Videon, attack Scrap Archfiend!" Leo commanded. "Rocket Strike!"
Videon leaped into the air. The thrusters on the rocket activated, propelling it through Scrap Archfiend through the chest. Leo took damage from the attack, dropping his life points from 2300 to 1400. Scrap Archfiend remained on the field with a big hole though its chest.
"Scrap Archfiend loses 1800 ATK due to the effect of Rocket Pilder!" Leo explained.
The wounded metal demon's ATK dropped from 2700 to 900, leaving it vulnerable to another assault.
"Now, Morphtronic Boomboxen, attack Scrap Archfiend!" Leo commanded. "Sonic Slash!"
With a swing of its axe, Boomboxen sent a out a sonic wave which destroyed Scrap Archiend. Luke's life points dropped from 2200 to 900.
"I'm not done!" Leo announced. "Boomboxen can attack twice while in Attack Mode! Boomboxen, attack Luke directly with Sonic Slash!"
Boomboxen swung its axe again, sending out another wave that hit Luke. Luke's life points dropped to zero. Leo had won. Suddenly, Luke began to scream out in pain. Leo saw sparks fly out the back of Luke's neck. Things had suddenly become much more bizarre.
