News Updates

Lots of little news bits to report:

- Happy Birthday, Matt Smith! The Eleventh Doctor actor turns 28 today, Oct. 28.

- A reminder that the Season 5 box set will be released in the US and Canada on Nov. 9.

- In other DVD news, Doctor Who: The Movie, the only televised story starring Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor, finally gets a North American release on Feb. 8, 2011. This is the first time since the movie aired in 1996 that it has been released outside the UK. Extras will include two commentary tracks, documentaries, behind the scenes material, and footage from Paul McGann's audition for the part of the Doctor.

- Additionally, starting in 2011, 2|entertain (the company responsible for Doctor Who's DVD distribution) will be switching to a global release schedule, which means DVDs will be released simultaneously worldwide. Until now, the US/Canada/Australia release schedule has been months behind the UK's.

- There will be a preview of the upcoming 2010 Christmas Special during BBC's Children In Need charity show on Nov. 19.

- Doctor Who is in the running for a People's Choice Award nomination under the Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show category. Go HERE to vote!

EDIT

It slipped my mind until now, but Matt Smith will be a guest on The Late Show with Craig Ferguson on. Nov. 16.
