Taiga Akashiya
I reluctantly followed Kita and the rest of the group down into a hole. A bobcat joined our group then, and I wrinkled my nose. How many more of these people were there, anyways? Jeesh. I wanted to escape, and traveling in a group this huge wasn't going to help very much.
The dirt tunnel opened up into a cavern, and I could see a few shafts of sunlight penetrating the somewhat solid dirt cave. Kita motioned for us to follow, and with a slight grumble from me, we did.
“See,” the fox girl smiled as we entered a secluded part of the forest. Dozens of foxes lay sleeping, scattered across the forest floor. It was weird how they just lay still.
The air took on a somewhat somber feeling, and I rolled my eyes. Everyone was most likely thinking about their sleeping family, and other crap like that. Sighing, I sat down on the floor and took a good look at the others.
It was an unlikely group. A fox, tiger, eagle, arctic wolf, snake, desert lynx, bobcat, a bat. What is this? I thought to myself. A freaking circus?!
"We aren't getting anything done by spacing out and thinking about our families," I finally growled after staring at the others' blank faces for the past five minutes.
Tears threatened to spill out of Kita's eyes, but she shook her head and smiled brightly. "Taiga's right! We need to think up a plan. Or something we can do next," she said, oddly cheerful.
"Well, what can we do?" Spike asked dubiously.
"We could try finding the cure to the disease," the bat girl offered. Kita's eyes brightened at this and I groaned.
"Yes! If we try hard enough, we should be able to find it and cure all these animals!" the leaders said, grinning from ear to ear.
I sighed and stood up, the motion not making me much taller than I was on the ground. "First of all, we have to make sure that we're safe. And we can only do that if we get away from here," I muttered through my teeth.
"Yume and I could fly around and see if there is anywhere we could go," Eagle Boy suggested. I realized then that i had never caught his or the bat's name.
"That would be great!" Kita nodded towards the two.
"Hey, what're your names?" I asked before they were able to depart.
"I'm Yume," the girl said with a smile. I nodded and turned towards the boy.
"Lance."
"Yeah, yeah," I replied, waving my hand. The others continued milling about the clearing while waiting for Yume and Lance to return from scouting. From their sorrowful expressions, I could tell that they were thinking about their families again.
Family... Pfft.
