I know why the caged bird sings.....
I know why the caged bird sings....
He sings for all the things
That he can no longer have
He sings for the things
He can no longer have

Lancer "Lance" Talon, opened his eyes, and stared with dead dark green spheres up at the ceiling above him. How long have I been here? How many days have passed? I can no longer remember.... yet when I start to think about it... a poem comes back to me... I know why the caged bird sings..... Lance closed his eyes and sighed outwards as his ears were flooded again with the sounds of machines and things around him. He lay in the comfortable bed, yet it was nothing to him... everything around him... was nothing to him.....I woke up.... and remembered nothing.... but then... I found I could fly... and knew I was not human.... and then they came.... the humans came again and took me for reasons I can't understand.... yet through it all the poem came back to me... I know why the caged bird sings..... He breathed outwards again and then heard the familiar sounds of movement. Someone had just entered his room.

"How are you today, Lancer?" a male human asked with a calm monotone voice. Lance said nothing but closed his eye and sighed outwards in his own silence. "Are you not feeling well?" the voice continued.

"I'me fine," Lance answered back quietly keeping his eyes closed now and not saying any more. Let me go back to my thoughts..... he thought to himself somewhat morosely. He wanted to fly... desperately.... it was making him extremely depressed not to be let lose to fly. The humans had promised to let him out every day to fly about, yet they were liars. They worked every day from sun rise to sun set poking and prodding him with needles and the like, yet nothing seemed to work for the eagle.

Suddenly Lance felt human fingers on his forehead. "You don't have a fever or anything of the like, it seems," the human said aloud before removing his hand and walking off somewhere. "Are you hungry?"

"I SAID I WAS FINE!" Lance shouted suddenly tensing up before relaxing again and breathing out quietly to himself. "Just let me out of here already! I want to fly!"

"Sorry, Lance... we have a few more tests to do today. You will have to be patient," the man sighed back. Lance sat up in the bed now and stared at the man. He couldn't bring himself to hate the human, yet he was tired of them... fed up as it were... he wanted out... wanted to get out... Then and only then would he be ok again.

"I said I want out," Lance answered back moving his legs off the bed and standing up on his legs. Almost instantly, his wings took form out from the shoulder blades on his back. "Just let me out to fly today!" he demanded sharply.

"I cannot do that, Lance," the man answered back stressing the last word... his name.... the only thing he remembered about himself. Lancer found himself hating the way the man said his name. He wanted to harm the man for saying his name in that way... make the man stop saying it... Yet he was unsure of how to or even if he could. "Now sit down and lay back in the bed. We have a few more tests to run.......Lance!"

Lancer had run straight towards the man right then and there and worked to brush past him and get to the door. The bird boy managed to do this and was fumbling with the handle on the door before managing to open it and running out into the hallway. Everything was white, and the hallway was long. He had to get out... had to. I want to see the sun... I want to see the sun.... Lance thought to himself over and over again as he ran faster and faster towards the other end of the hallway.

There was a door barring his way, yet Lance pushed down on the handle and managed to find it led to a room with windows. He could see the sky! Lance's eyes grew as he suddenly ran straight towards the window. With the sound of shattering glass in his wake, the bird boy transfered all his force into the glass and shattered it instantly flying into the air. Lance felt his wings beat for a few seconds as he raised himself up into the air. It felt good to be back! However, just then, he heard a gun go off. A man was holding up a dart gun directly at him. Dodging a few of the shots, Lance flew as fast as he could around the area. Suddenly his eye caught sight of two girls... that appeared to have the features of animals. Were they animals as well? Yes this had to be it! He flew directly towards them.
