My Week in Anime #11 (April 26 - May 2) - PART 1

I've noticed a common error creeping it's way into fansubs lately: "anyways." Please people, it's "anyway" without the "s" on the end. STOP MAKING THIS ERROR, IT'S STUPID.

Maria-sama ga Miteru 3rd Season DVD Specials
Oh my god, the crack... These omake were even crazier than the ones from the previous seasons, especially the squirrels attacking Yumi and Kanako getting bigger and bigger in each of her scenes. Oh, and the Hanadera boys trying to do their own version of the opening narration, which also caused Sachiko to freak out.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood ep 4
Basqu Gran is taken out in the first couple of minutes? Lame. Not that I liked him of course, but we don't get to see how much of a rat-bastard he is. He's just canon fodder here.

I'm also pretty sure the order of events is different. While I don't know what the order was in the manga, I think Ed and Al met Tucker when they first came to Central to apply as State Alchemists, not after they returned from Lior. I guess it's a combination of familiarity with the story and the differences between the two versions, but Tucker's transmutation of Nina and the dog into a chimera didn't have the impact on me as it did the first time. And then when Scar killed Tucker... I'm guessing effed-up chimera Tucker from the first series isn't part of the manga?

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann ep 11 - 12
Simon finally comes out from the funk he's been in since Kamina died, thanks to Nia. Good thing she was there since everyone else had given up on him (wow, some friends they are). I don't really get why they tried to throw Lagann out with the trash. Wouldn't it be more intelligent to try and see if anyone else could pilot it? Because if one half of your super-bad-ass combining mecha is gone, well... you're pretty much screwed.

Tales of the Abyss ep 7 - 10
Looks like I was right about Van being the real villain, although I didn't expect it to be revealed so soon. Nor did I expect Luke to be the replica and Asch to be the real Luke, but considering the amnesia thing it seems obvious now. Luke bugged the hell out of me in the first couple of episodes, he was acting like a total prick. But I also felt sorry for him after he got tricked by Van and pretty much caused the deaths of a whole town full of people. At least now he's decided to change and is trying his best to become a better person.

07-Ghost ep 4
Looks like I was right, the old man was possessed by a Kor. We also get some good info on what the Kor do to people to steal their souls. And the bishops are definitely more than they seem (Frau's scythe is pretty sweet).

On the flipside, Mikage still won't betray Teito. I just hope Ayanami doesn't do anything nasty to his family. I want someone to sort out Ayanami and his thugs, and soon please.

And will someone please remove Teito's shackles!? How many episodes can he go through with those darn things still on?

Agatha Christie's Great Detectives Poirot and Marple ep 9 - 10
"Keep the secrets of the incident secret." This wins the Most Redundant Statement prize. Anyway (no s), these episodes cover the Kidnapped Prime Minister story. One major difference here is a trip to France, which I don't remember being part of the live TV episode I'm familiar with. In that one I think they were going to go to France to search fro the Prime Minister, but Poirot (clever as ever) knew they wouldn't find him there. However after some research, I've learned the crossing to France was indeed part of the original short story.

Back to this adaptation, with a 24-hour ban on launching ships, Poirot and company try to sneak back to England, but of course the army gets trigger happy and starts shooting at them. This I definitely know wasn't in the original version of the story. I think they added it here to add some tension and make a good cliffhanger. The ending to the entire story is also different from what I remember from the live TV version, but again it's more similar to the short story. Watching this show is actually a learning experience. I'm seeing that's it's more faithful to the stories and novels than the TV adaptations that I'm used to. I claim to be an Agatha Christie fan, but in all honesty I haven't actually read much of her work. I'm going to have to fix that.

On a technical note, there's also a gaffe made in the subs: "Major Norman" is later called "Captain Norman." Talk about short term memory loss (for the subber, that is).
