After an unfortunately long hiatus due to an extreme bout of laziness, I'm finally back to watching anime again. Really, considering I'm in the middle of a bunch of things, it didn't make very much sense to stop. I think in futre I will cut down on the number of shows I'm watching at one time so I don't suffer from overload. Anyway, moving along...
Kanon ep 8 - 10
Concluding Mokoto's story, I had the feeling she'd turn out to be some kind of animal in human form. I'm also guessing that the childhood friend Amano said lost their memory turns out to be Yuichi, since it's his past and slow regaining of his memories from the past that's central to the story. So far Kanon has not hit my heartstrings as much as Clannad did, but there's still plenty of opportunities ahead.
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya ep 7 - 10
Kind of creepy to think that the outcome of a basball game could determine the fate of the world. I have to commend Kyon for not cracking yet. I don't think I could deal with constantly trying to keep Haruhi entertained day in and day out.
And now comes the murder mystery 2-parter. I just skimmed through Ep 10 again since I already saw it back when I tried to watch the show in the non-linear order. That was what made me change my mind and decide to go through it in episode order instead, because it makes no bloody sense to watch Part 2 of something way before Part 1. Yeah, I know I chickened out, but I don't care. I have to say though I do like this type of mystery plot, where everyone is trapped someplace and can't escape and there's a killer on the loose. It can be cliche, but that doesn't mean it isn't entertaining,
Also, I swear I've seen that butler before. I guess anime butlers all use the same general character design, older tall guys with slicked back hair and the bushy mustache.
ep 11 - 14
The musical stuff at the festival was definitely a highlight of the series. Unfortunately the ending of the series really let me down. The final episode is pedantic and dull. It would have been better if it was put in earlier in the series. Nothing is explained and nothing is resolved. After so much random weirdness, I was expecting something big and spectacular, and instead what they give is "a day in the life". I think this is also a show that got over-hyped. While it was definitely good and had a plethora of entertaining moments, it isn't the greatest thing ever.
Silent Mobius ep 3 - 6
We get introduced to a new character: Robert "Roy" Device, a regular police officer who's assigned to train Katsumi, and who also seems destined to be her love interest. After the introduction to the world and premise of the series and the mystery of Katsumi's father in the first couple of episodes, these episodes are more about letting the audience get to know the gang. It's also back story time with an episode focused on Kiddy and how she became a cyborg, and it looks like this trend of exploring the characters' histories will continue.
Spice and Wolf ep 6 - 8
Giant wolf Holo is super cool! We only had that barest hint of her true form in the first episode when she showed it to Lawrence, so to see her in action knocking the crap out of bad guys is a treat. After this action we get a couple more lighter episodes dealing with the show's usual emphasis on economics. Looks like things might make another turn for the interesting with the introduction of a new character, a shepherd girl who seems to have captivated Lawrence, much to Holo's annoyance. I also like how there's casual flirting going on between Lawrence and Holo, I'm interested in seeing the development of their relationship, because there are times when romance is handled poorly in shows and people end up together too quickly with little serious interaction.
ep 9 - 13
And so the series draws to a close. I thought maybe someone would go after Holo again, but I'm glad that didn't happen. It would have been pretty redundant. I like the new character, Nora the shepherdess, very quiet and understated and I really feel for her, being labeled as a 'heretic' by the church because they think she must have magical powers because she does her job so well. Feh... Oh, and I didn't understand the rant by that one guy Lawrence tried to borrow money from. Um, what about him having a female companion is so bad? Uptight twits...
Overall I rather liked this show, and I plan to watch Season 2 sometime in the near future.
You're Under Arrest ep 14 - 15
Strikeman is back. This loudmouth always irritates me, but then he irritates everyone in the show anyway. And while the series hasn't always been accurate to reality, Ep 14 really takes it to an extreme with a lot of physics defying stuff in and around a crumbling building.
