Recess

So I decided to write a recess thing for the summer school thing because it looked like a lot of fun. c: Thank you for the tether ball idea, Xuian. ^o^

I hate the heat. I hate the outdoors. I hate the sun. I hate Summer School.

The only good thing about this is the break from our so-called "classes." I don't care what anyone says, I'm going to stay right over here, in the shade, and hope that my laptop doesn't die. It only has 30% battery life left, so this is going to be a struggle.

Scrolling dutifully through my tumblr dashboard also allows me to hone my one true talent. That's right: blogging apathy. When I'm alone it's all fine and dandy to squeal generously at every little thing, but never in front of this many people. Never.

No matter what is happening on this website, no one will know that anything is ever out of the ordinary. My, that post was very visually inappropriate. Kept a straight face, though. Didn't even blush. Oh dear, that snippet of fanfiction is absolutely scandalous. And everyone is none the wiser. Man, I am one stone-cold mo-

"Hey."

-THER OF GOD. I minimize the window immediately and turn around to face my intruder. Ah, Akira. You always have wonderful timing.

"Why are you looking at pictures of kittens?"

To keep people like you away from my secrets. "Oh, you know. Cats. Kittens. They're always pretty great."

"Yeah, okay," she replies somewhat skeptically. "You should go and play with the others. It will help you make more friends."

For one thing, I don't even need more friends. I have a friend. Maybe even three friends. And a whole lot of friendly aquaintances! For another thing, no.

She must have seen my skeptical expression. "I just want to make sure that you're comfortable around everyone. We're a pretty close-knit group of people, you know."

"Yeah..." I trail off, looking away.

Akira pinches the bridge of her nose, exasperated. "Why don't you go and play tether ball? Ela and Emery are there, too."

Have I really gotten that close with Emery? And- "You don't want to see me playing games with balls. Games that use balls and me are not a good mix. Actually, sports that require running also don't go well for me, but that's more because I have weak cardio skills than-"

"I am saying this as the leader of this club: Go play tether ball. Now." Her face is absolutely murderous.

"Y-yeah, okay," I stutter out as I shut my laptop and back away. For someone who's usually so nice to me, she can be genuinely terrifying.

I walk over to the group of people gathering to play some tether ball. I start the first game with Griffin and feel pretty comfortable. For some reason. Perhaps his complete lack of technological understanding keeps me confident in my own abilities.

Thankfully, everything is fine and dandy once again. Until the ball comes hurtling towards me, that is.

And the beast within awakens.

Twenty minutes later I've won two games and Griffin and Ash have a black eye and bloody nose respectively. Needless to say, I feel pretty terrible.

"Whoa, Bridgette, that was awesome." Ela pats me on the back encouragingly. "Maybe a little softer next time, though."

I'm seriously trying not to cry. Why is this happening?

"I'm really sorry," I address them shakily.

"It is quite fine. I have had worse."

"Um, it's alright. It's not too bad." Ash is actively trying to stem the blood flow here.

"Come on, babe, let's get Ash all cleaned up," Ela says, grabbing my arm and leading us both inside.

So today I managed to create yet another reason for Ash to hate me.

What even is my life?
