Helpless

KEEFER

My whole body ached. My lungs burned more with every breath I took. When I tried to get up, my legs wouldn't cooperate, felt too heavy. So all I could do was lay there. I felt helpless and I hated it. If I could get up, at least I could fight, go down swinging or something....but right now, they could do what they wanted to me and I wouldn't be able to do a thing.

Just kill me, Anders...if you really want to get rid of the monster, kill me.

A new pain started between my shoulders. I tried to ignore it, but it suddenly grew sharply and started spreading down my back to the tip of my tail. It felt like my spine was trying to tear through my skin. I arched my back as much as I could, trying to find relief somehow.

"Finally. The serum took longer than I expected. Any pain?"

I growled weakly. Why hadn't I heard him come in?

"You know what they say, no pain no gain, eh nephew?" He squatted down next to me and ran a hand along my spine. It came away bloody. "Oh my, look at that blood. But that was to be respected."

The pain was still growin, and I could smell my own blood, could feel it running down my back and side.

"Don't worry, you'll live. And you will be so much stronger than you can imagine." The sound of his footsteps moved toward the door. "Oh, and since you've been so good today, I brought you a little friend. Bring her in."

Despite the pain, I managed to move enough to get a view of the door. More men came in, carrying a limp figure. Black labcoat...blue hair?

No! Kateri!
