Chapter 58

"This will be your final day in training before you become a priestess," Hana told me as I went to sit next to Koori and Hyaku. I couldn't help but smile down at Hyaku as I passed him.

"A full-fledged priestess?" I asked, excitement coating my words. Finally, after weeks of training, I was going to finally be promoted. It was good to be rewarded for a job well done.

"Well yes. But, there are some things you should know about it," she told me seriously. I frowned, unsure of whether or not I should be worried by the tone in her usually calm voice. "There will be a ceremony that will take place at the waterfalls outside of this place. It will basically turn you into a demonic priestess."

I frowned at the demonic part. "I'm going to turn into a demon?" I asked, to clarify what I already knew. It seemed my turning into a demon was the topic of the year, and I wasn't sure how I felt about it.

"Yes. You have a very powerful energy flowing through you; you are a powerful woman already, and turning you into a priestess will forever change you," Hana replied.

I looked down at my hands in my lap unsure if I was ready to leave my human life behind, but then, what had I ever gained from being human. Maybe if I was a demon, I'd be able to stick up for myself more. Maybe this was my chance to start over, to start a new life. A life with Hyaku. I wouldn't be a pure-blooded demon, but at least he wouldn't get the humiliation of being with a human.

I glanced up and looked at the three of them. "What kind of a demon will I turn into?" I asked her.

"It depends on your chi. No one will know until after the change has completed."

I nodded, looking over at Hyaku and smiled. "Well, when is the ceremony going to take place?"

"I was thinking about tomorrow, but you have to be absolutely sure of what you want. There can't be any doubt that this is where you want to be, that a priestess is who you want to become."

I hesitated, looking at Hyaku. He was whom I wanted to be with for the rest of my life, and if that meant I had to change for him, I'd gladly do it. We exchanged a look signifying how important we were to each other. I looked back at Hana. "I have no doubt that this is what I want to do."

"Good," Hana nodded. "Then, let's get the last day of training out of the way." I nodded, liking the sound of that.
