Chapter 32

Shun, after he had left, had caught me as I had tried to go into the bath. Now, I stood in Hyaku's study with two demons holding me down. Shun and Hyaku were fighting, and when Hyaku had been punched out of the room, I had yelled his name, begging him to get up.

"But I might as well tell you this since you're about to die," Shun said leaning closer to Hyaku. "I was the one that killed mother," as he said that eyes widened and Shun pierced Hyaku in the abdomen, Hyaku looked down to see blood. "Tell mother I said hello."

"Hyaku! No!" I screamed as I watched him fall to his knees. I struggled against my captor's vice grip. I tried to use some of the training I had been taught, and I was able to get free.

Running in a bathtowel, I was able to deflect the sword blow that would have cut Hyaku's head clean off with a sword I had grabbed from Hyaku's desk. I stood there, nearly naked, holding onto the sword with shaking arms. I glared at Shun, wanting so desperately to hold Hyaku, but I knew if I turned my back, we were both as good as dead.

Shun chuckled at the sight of this. "You dare raise a sword to me? Then allow me to kill you as well. You can die together in each others' arms," Shun raised his sword and struck out. I blocked it in the knick of time with the sword in hand.

Breathing heavily, I couldn't believe I had lasted as long as I had. Where was Koori and Hana? They'd be able to fend him off more easily than I could. Lashing out again, he caught my shoulder. Crying out, I refused to go down or give him the satisfaction of seeing me faint.

"You aren't killing him!" I told Shun with fierce determination.

"Kiana," Hyaku called out my name. "Just get out of here. No sense in you dying for my sake."

I shook my head, "No! I'm not leaving you here. He'll have to kill me first to get to you."

Shun smiled. "That can easily be arranged." With that, he raised the sword to lash out once more.
