Chapter 67

Up on the hill, which rose high above the palace and the small village surrounding it, I turned back and looked out over my home. This would probably be the last time I saw it. Smiling sadly, I sat down. Even at my weakest when I had nothing to lose, I was still scared. I was scared what awaited me when I reached Satan.

If it was anything like all the rumors predicted, I would most likely lose all humanity I had once the darkness took hold of me. I guess the prophet would be right. I would become one of the corrupted. Sighing, I closed my eyes and looked up into the sun. My journey would be long and tiresome; best to get going now.

Standing back up, I left the safe confines of home and journeyed out into the unknown. Satan's lair was about a day's journey from here. I would reach him before midnight. I had a long ways to go.

Before I knew it, I was in front of Satan's castle. IT was tall, looming over everything around it. The bricks were black and menacing and gargoyles littered the front of the giant building. It was the scariest place I had ever been to. Taking a deep breath, I pushed the doors open and walked right in.

Dia followed Shunsuke through the portal and sat on his shoulder as he spoke with Kayden's father and Chance. After Shunsuke was finished saying his peace, Kayden's father spoke up, "So, she didn't go to the human world after you?"

Shunsuke stopped short and frowned. "No, I didn't see her."

Chance spoke to Dia, "She didn't go with you to retrieve Shunsuke?"

Dia shook her tiny head no. "I went alone early this morning. When I did, Lady Kayden was sitting by the window in her room."

Chance turned to Lady Kayden's father and they exchanged looks of concern. "Where could she have gone?"

Dia knew in the back of her mind where she had gone, but she was too scared to say it outloud. And, she wasn't sure how much Lady Kayden would appreciate her telling her family about her deal. Though, I wondered if it was high time they found out. If it meant helping her and getting her back safely.

Dia whispered into Shunsuke's ear so that only he could hear her. "I know where she went." she hesitated a moment. "She went to Satan's to fulfill the deed. She figured she had nothing left for her here, so she went on her own as to not bring him to her family."

Shunsuke went pale, and both Chance and the King started questioning him. Dia flew over to the King. "It's best you not ask too many questions, my Lord."
