Don't Fall Over!

So how was everyone's holiday and black Friday and Saturday shopping? I had a great holiday but other than to work I didn't go out on Friday or Saturday. I thought about it but any real shopping would have required driving to one of the bigger towns in the area.

However, we had absoutely insane winds on Friday. A front came through and we had wind advisory warnings up for most of the day since the gusts were hitting as high as 55mph. Plus it was cold, enough that I actually felt cold. I'm used to much colder weather so what they consider cold here I think of as autumn instead of actual winter.

So I worked and then laughed at all the silly black Friday stories of people going nuts. We even had people start a fight at the tiny Walmart here. The cops had to come and break it up.

Saturday was a bit better, still cold but not so windy, however the winds did damage all over the town. One of the things it messed up was one of the power poles that run right next to the complex I'm in. It's kind of a bit o_O to see something like that leaning in the direction of the building you live in.

If it had fallen it wouldn't have hit my place directly but I don't want it hitting the apartment right next to me. Having live powerlines down would create a fire and electrical hazard for everyone, not just my neighbors.

I'm honestly surprised that I didn't end up without power or Internet for most of the weekend. They didn't get around to fixing it until today. I imagine some of that was other damage elsewhere taking priority and someone did come out and stabilize it, temporarily.

Anyway, to give you an idea I took pictures while they were working on replacing the damaged pole. The first is them preparing to drill a hole for the new pole.

This next one is after they had the new one up so you can really see just how much the other was leaning towards the building.

It wasn't too bad really. I had no power for about an hour while they switched to the new pole and once they were done the cable company came to move the lines over as well.

I'm not sure how long the net was down since I left for work but it was all back up and running when I got home. :3 I'm just really glad that thing didn't topple over and hit the building and that no one got hurt.

Anyway, it's 1am and I'm starting to yawn quite a bit so I think I shall head to bed and sleep, later all.
