The Mad House

“Do you have any more bullets?” I asked

“Three more.” he replied ,sleepily.

“You cunning mastermind.” I laughed.

The library was just around the corner. We walked in.

“Hello, Mr. Swanson.” said a voice.

Lightning struck revealing a man sitting in a chair. It was David Brent. He held a pistol smirking.

“Don’t tell me it was you all along!” I said.

“It was. Nice guess.”

“How did you do it?” I asked.

“Well, I’m a scientist. I designed a substance that heightens a person’s paranoia and violent behavior. So I decided to put it in the water supply here at the Asylum. The only way the substance works is through a loud, consistent noise. If a person drinks enough it’s permanent. It comes in a powder so it was easy.” He said.

“Why would you test such a thing?” I cried.

“Do you know how much it would sell for to the highest bidder? I’d be rich!” exclaimed David.

“How did you free the prisoners?” I asked.

“I had to take Jon’s keycard to get into the control room. I made a prisoner angry so Jon would tell Bill to check it out. I took Jon’s keycard and got in while you went looking for Bill over there. Poor Jon, he was the first.” sighed David.

“Don’t you dare talk to him like that!”

“Mike! Calm down. I want to test it once more.” said David

“What are you talking about?”

Then a buzzing noise. Rang in a consistent note. David held up a device that shot the noise outwards. No. I threw Bill into the wall. Bill held his gun at me.

“You drank the water?” said Bill.

I was hearing voices. Jen walked past me. I reached out to her. My hand slipped right through her.

“Jen! Where are you going? Don’t walk away from me!” I screamed.

I turned to Bill.

“You stole her from me!” I roared.

Bill couldn’t even hold his gun. I took it from him. He didn’t even fight me. I aimed the gun at him. Ready to kill the man that stole my girlfriend.

“That’s it Mike, kill him.” Encouraged David.

“Mike. C’mon you don’t have to do this. You can fight it.” pleaded Bill, crying.

I wavered. I didn’t want to kill him. I still had my girlfriend. Right? My gun came to my side. I dropped it. The noise rang in my ears, voices tormenting me. The rain slid down the glass. Lightning zipped through the sky. The thunder shaking the floor in a giant boom. The inmates screaming as they murdered each other.

“Kill him Mike!” yelled David.

I took out my pipe and raised it above me. A gunshot exploded through the noise and voices, halting them. David yelped, holding his hand. Bill fired the last two bullets and slipped into unconsciousness. The device was destroyed. I roared and ran at David.
I hit him in the stomach and went for his head. He raised his arm and grabbed it. He threw it out the window.

I swung a fist at him. He ducked and uppercutted me in the chin. I bit my tongue.
I tasted blood. I kicked him in the leg and kneed him in the face. David punched me in the ribs and went for my throat. I slapped it out of the way and punched him in the face.
The inmates were racing down the hall. Bill woke up. He got up. He picked up a plank of wood.

David threw me into a desk. I grabbed a book and slammed it into the side of his face.
Bill closed the doors and put the plank through the handles. He propped two chairs against the doors. He grabbed David’s pistol. He aimed. The lightning lit up the sky.
Bill crashed into the wall unconscious.

I ducked under a right hook and punched him in the gut. David then threw me across a library counter. I hit the floor and staggered up. David was on the counter and kicked me in the face. I fell back and started to crawl. David picked up a chair. I rolled out of the way as the chair splintered into pieces against the floor.

David stood in a loop of rope.
I kicked him in the face and got up. I ran around him. He stepped trough the ropes, tangling himself. I punched him twice in the gut and kicked him in the face. He stepped back. I then tackled him and charged ,holding him by the shirt. I smashed him through the window. David fell out the window, screaming. The rope was tied to something heavy. David swung and smashed into the lower level’s window. The window shattered.
David was still conscious swinging crazily back and forth. In the prison, then out the prison.

I took Bill’s knife and cut the rope loose. David swung into the prison. His leg broken and tied up. He struggled. Only to realize that there were prisoners in the room.

“No.No. Get away! No!”

The prisoners were on him. They beat him with rods and bats then after he was beaten, fought each other.David crawled, blood oozing out of him.The victor of the prisoner fight then took a knife and jumped onto the escaping mastermind and sawed into his neck.

The screaming was unbearable. I ran over to Bill frantically. I slapped him.

“Bill!”

Bill opened his eyes. Blood was all over him. The rampaging prisoners were smashing against the doors.

“I’m alive.”He whispered.

I heaved him up and hobbled towards the fire escape. I smashed it open and we climbed down the ladder. The prisoners broke through the library doors and saw us. Some jumped off the fire escape and shattered their legs. Others took the escape ladder.

“Run!”

We then went into a faster jog. We got into my car. The walking prisoners smashed into our windows. I backed up, crushing one. The windows were broken. I ran over six others and rammed one into the prison wall. I raced through the gates, ripping the hinges off. We were safe. I raced Bill to the hospital. He was still alive. I waited in the hospital for the rest of the night.

I feared that the hospital would be turned into monsters through the water supply and a siren. But I was safe. I lived. I escaped the Mad House. I could go and see Jen and actually touch her if I wanted to.

But I fell asleep in the lobby.

“Mike?”
I woke up. It was Jen.

“What the hell happened to you?”

“Long story.” said a voice.

Bill walked in still pallid but alive. I realized I was covered in blood.

“Want to talk about this in the cafeteria?” I asked.

“No. you tell me now.”

“Okay, here it goes....”

The End
