stararnold's Otakuthon 2011 Trip

Gaming and Contests

This year's Otakuthon was actually the first in which I took part in a contest event. I played in the first segment of the "Anime Categories" game, where it is two players and two players per segment in a challenge where each team must list anime and/or manga titles that fit the anime/manga genre selected by the hostess. I played in the first segment, and in that, the challenge was to write down anime and/or manga titles that are kodomo types, and "kodomo" refers to anime and manga that entirely/partly target audiences under the age of 13. the minimum age of taget audiuence audience for shouneen and shoujo types. Though the challenge was tricky, I managed to take time to think in my head, not only anime I watched from childhood and teenhood (including the 2003 "Astro Boy" series and "Medabots"), but also anime examples I heard of from mags and internet. Eventually, my team won the kodomo challenge and while memebers of each winning team got to choose their prizes, I chose for my prize, the "Galaxy Angel Z" Vol. 3 DVD. Other categories selected for the challenges were shounen, time travel/historical fiction, mecha, shoujo, magical girl, and slice of life. In the time travel/historical fiction segment of the event, the odd part was one of the contestants wrote down for his team, "Samurai Bebop", a title that doesn't exist, and as his team did not get a point for that, it was obvious to the audiences that he was confusing "Cowboy Bebop" and "Samurai Champloo", two different anime directed by Shinichiro Watanabe.

Originally, I was planning to take part in the video gaming tournament as I have not been playing video games in a long time, but when I found out about having to pay extra for it, I decided to skip out on on taking part and more focus on taking pictures and visiting panels.
