Chapter Eight: Kuori!

~*Miyuki*~

I quickly went over to Kuori’s house after Tai frantically called me saying Kuori was having an awful dream and practically screaming. I had a bad feeling and my instincts told me I needed to be with him so I dropped the laundry I was folding and ran. Bursting through the door I went to Kuori’s room to find him on the bed taking some deep breaths with Tai near him.

“Kuori are you alright?” I asked. He nodded and I gave him a particular glare and he sighed.

“I had a dream, about the pharaoh Zaki. I was him, and his brother, my brother…”

“Slow down dear, I can’t understand you.” I said softly, putting a hand on his cheek.

“Sorry… b-but, more important than that, we are all in serious danger.” Kuori took my hand into his.

“What do you mean?” I asked as a feeling of dread welled up in my stomach. He got really close to my ear and whispered.

“The house has been bugged. I found a camera.”

“No, that cant be…” I leaned over and whispered to Tai.

“Kuori found a camera in the house.” He stiffened up.

“We should leave. Now.” Tai said.

“Where would we go?” I asked.

“Away, far away.” Tai said.

“We can’t just abandon our families suddenly without any reason.” I said. I was worried my house was bugged too, and that my parents were in danger.

“Lets just pack things and we will figure out how we are going to do this. Tai is right, we need to leave as soon as possible. I’ll explain the dream later. I won’t put you and Tai in any danger.”

“Hey now I can handle myself.” Tai chuckled and Kuori smiled a little. I took the opportunity and kissed Kuori sweetly. He pulled back after a few seconds and stood up.

“I’m fine now, you go and pack.” He said. “Take Tai with you.”

“Alright.” Tai and I headed out and were about to go outside when Tai snatched my arm.

“Wait.” He said and looked out the window. “Get down.”

“Wha-” Tai pushed me down gently but firmly and he shook his head.

“There’s a black van outside.” I peeked through the blinds and sure enough there was a van parked just across the street. Tai went and got Kuori who came over next to me, looking concerned.

“What now?” I asked. Kuori took my hand and we went to the back door.

“As soon as I open this door, you need to run, do you understand me?” He said. I nodded and he hugged me. “I’ll protect you, don’t worry. Tai, I need you to go with her. Make sure she is safe.”

“Of course.” Tai nodded.

“Ready? 3, 2, 1, go!” He opened up the door and I started running as fast as I could. I was tripped though, and saw big guys in all black running towards us. Tai practically ripped me up from the ground and forced me to keep up with him. Kuori was fighting with 2 of them a little ways behind us.

“Tai! Kuori needs help!” I tried to slow down but he wouldn’t let me. Taigot me up over the fence in the backyard and quicky got over himself and pulled me into the bushes before anyone saw us. There must have been at least 5 more guys near the van. Peeking out of the bushes around the corner, we saw Kuori had gotten caught, and was being dragged toward the van as he was kicking and fighting the entire way. My stomach dropped and I felt my body move to get up but Tai wrapped his arms around me and held me still. “No let go, let go we need to help we don’t know where they’re going, please Tai let go damn it!” I got louder and he put his hand over my mouth and looked at me, obviously pained.

“I can’t, I promised to keep you safe.” Hot tears slipped out of my eyes and as I heard the van door slam and the squealing of tires I stopped squirming and just laid there. Tai helped me stand up after a few minutes and took a deep breath. “They’ll be back. We need to leave Miyuki.”

“We need to find Kuori as soon as possible. Do you know where they would have taken him?” My voice shook but I tried to stay as calm as possible.

“I’m not sure. But we will find him.” He said and we ran to my house where I grabbed a small bag with a pair of clothes and some food in it. I scribbled out a note to my parents.

Mom and dad,
I love you very much. Some things have happened, and I can’t explain them right now. Just trust me when I say I’m in good hands and everything will be ok. I don’t know when the next time I see you will be, but please don’t help anyone try to find me. I’ll be back, I promise.
Love Mi

“I hope they take it well.” I said.

“You are doing the right thing. This is also for their safety too.” Tai nodded. “Now, we need to leave, and go somewhere, anywhere.”

“How? We have no money.” I said. Tai whipped out his wallet and pulled out a credit card. “Yes we do, but we have to be careful, they could track this. We have to keep moving all the time. I know how these people operate. We have to stay one step ahead.” He explained. I nodded.

“Alright. Lets go.” I said. We stopped at his house quickly as he grabbed a small bag as well.

“Where should we look first?” I asked. Tai thought for a moment.

“They wouldn’t take him to HQ. That would be too obvious. He is probably on a plane now to some disclosed area, in another country, one that we have direct military access to and diplomatic relations.”

“So, somewhere in Europe maybe?” I suggested. Remembering the trip to Paris, I figured some western country would be the right place. Just within reach but far enough away for it to be secure. I was so scared for Kuori. What were they doing to him? Was he hurt? Could he be killed? At that thought I shook my head. “Start in London or something!” I yelled. Tai nodded.

“Alright, we have sources there. It’s possible.” He opened up the door to his truck for me and we raced to the airport, hoping for a flight that was within the hour or sooner. We couldn’t risk being caught so the sooner we left, the better off we would be. But once we got on the road, we saw roadblocks and vehicles being stopped and searched. “Shit.” Tai muttered. We turned around and parked his truck in the woods. “Change of plans, we are taking the train to a big city and flying out from there.” He got out and opened the door for me. I hopped out and slung my bag over my shoulder.

“Ok, so are we going to backtrack a little? The smaller part of town is that way, where the station is. Wont they be monitoring that though?”

“Maybe, but we have to try.” He said with a small smile. “We’re smarter than them, we can do this.”
“Yeah…” I forced a smile back and we made our way through the woods. I felt bad we had to leave the truck behind, but I knew that right now we had to do whatever it took to get away and find Kuori. Tai must have felt the same because he went through the woods without saying anything. We finally got to the road and carefully followed it until we got into town more. I was paranoid the whole way.

“Alright, I’m going to change my appearance and buy us tickets, then get on casually and everything will be good.” He said and I nodded. He left and I watched the people that were near me. I felt like I couldn’t trust anyone, anyone could be someone undercover, looking for us. Suddenly my arm was grabbed and I pulled away to see a tall man with brown hair. “Mi, its me, come on we need to go. It’s Tai.” I relaxed a little and followed him and got onto the train without incident. I sighed loudly once we started moving, and slowly began to cry.
