SMC 3 End Themes: Best to Worst

I decided that I should do a post for this Anime/Music Connection world that covers music that’s actually from an anime series rather than music that I think of because of a certain anime series or character. So I’m going to do a quick ranking of the ending themes for the third season of Sailor Moon Crystal from best to worst.

The ending theme at the top of our list is also the first ending theme of the season, a duet between two of this season’s major characters, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune.

1.) Eternal Eternity

My favorite of this end theme is the very beginning where Haruka and Michiru’s voices overlap. There are also a lot of good visuals too, like the use of the rose petals and the part where our two Sailor Guardians clasp hands. Another good visual is the part where the two of them are lying in the bed of roses together. All in all, the theme does a good job of capturing the relationship between these two.

While finding the videos for this post, I came across a full-length version of the first end theme, which can be seen below.

I really wish that this video was subbed, but what're you gonna do? In any case, the full version really shows just what an awesome end theme this really is. One of the best parts of this version is the violin solo towards the end. Of course how could it not have a violin solo with Michiru/Sailor Neptune as one of the featured characters? I think I like this ending theme even more than I did when I began the post.

Coming in at number two on our best to worst list is the season’s third opening theme featuring Tuxedo Mask.

2.) Eternity Ties Us Together

This is a fairly good ending theme all around in my opinion. The song is certainly one that I don’t mind having stuck in my head from time to time. Plus the part where Tuxedo Mask dances out of the spotlight twirling his cape reminds me of something that I can’t quite place, something that maybe I saw from a 1980s music video or something. The one part of the video that might be a tad over the top is the part where Mamoru is standing in the rain with a wet shirt clinging tightly too him, though I’m sure all the fangirls out there just love that part.

Now we come to the worst ending theme of Sailor Moon Crystal’s third season, the second end theme that features Chibi-Usa. Listen to it at your own risk.

3.) Maiden’s Advice

Don’t get wrong, I have absolutely nothing against Chibi-Usa/Sailor Chibi-Moon. In fact I think she’s probably one of the best characters in the whole series. That being said, this ending theme that she’s featured in is just nauseatingly cute. What makes the end theme even worse are the male backup singers, which don’t fit at all with the song and if anything just conjure up some very creepy images. I don’t know who it was on the production staff who green-lit this ending theme, but it was just a total musical fail.

That about covers it for this post. I apologize if it wasn’t very in-depth. I also apologize that these videos weren't subbed. Chances are I probably won’t make this best to worst thing a regular feature of this world, but I hope that everyone enjoyed reading it.
