Creeping Horror

A few days later, Lucard found a pot of soup on the doorstep - probably from Alleava. Aileev had taken to firebathing twice a day religiously, and it seemed to be working for her. Nabikio was sitting on the couch, wrapped in a blanket and looking round the room with shadow-rimmed eyes. He was pale and a little thinner than before, but he was pulling through all right.
Vellatra was in the children's room, tending to Veelia, who was weepy and very feverish.
"She won't stop clutching her head," Vellatra muttered to Lucard. "And she always wants me right by her. I'm so worried."
"Mommy!" Veelia squealed. "Where are you? Don't leave me!"
"Well, at least she's loud," Lucard said softly. "If she were too weak to yell, I'd be more worried."
"MAMA!"
"Right here, darling," said Vellatra, hurrying over and picking her up.
"It's all so dark," Veelia whimpered as she clung to her mother. "Mommy, am I dying?"
"No, sweetie, it'll be okay," Vellatra said. "You'll get better."
Lucard left the room and found Nabikio standing outside.
"Is she telling the truth?" he whispered.
Lucard took his son's hand and moved to the kitchen. "We don't know yet if Veelia will live," he said softly. "More likely than not, she'll make it through all right. But this sickness has been hard on her and we're not quite certain how it'll go at this point."
Nabikio looked at the floor. "This is my fault," he said. "I shouldn't have come home after I ran into Izak."
"Where else would you have gone?" said Lucard, gently. "You didn't know you had a sickness."
"I should've," Nabikio groaned. "I've heard you and Mom talk about Creeping Horror before." He looked back up at Lucard. "Didn't you used to have a baby sister?"
Lucard closed his eyes and nodded. "She was a lot smaller than Veelia; she couldn't fight it off."
"Aileev," Nabikio said, "how long have you been standing there?"
Lucard looked up in time to see Aileev running away from the kitchen doorway.
"Aileev, wait," he called, but too late.
"Why are the lights out?" Veelia was asking when Aileev came into the room.
"They aren't out, dear," said Vellatra.
"But it's so dark," Veelia whined.
Aileev pulled her dress off. "Over here, Veelia!" She burst into flames.
"Whoa," Veelia whispered, reaching toward her sister. "You're glowing!"
That's when Vellatra saw her daughter's eyes were glazed over.
"I'll be back," she said, setting Veelia on the bed. Aileev extinguished herself and hugged her sister.
"Lucard," Vellatra whispered, "I think Veelia might be going blind."

Wrote this a while ago and never finished it... but everybody does get better and make it out okay.
