Holy crap, I have been swamped since I came home from Anime Expo, haha. Been contributing a lot to the coverage here, and I wrote about the first couple of days on the other blog, if anyone is interested. I'm barely getting to the summer anime right now ... I haven't even watched much that is good yet. :(
Also, a certain person who shall remain anonymous (hurr hurr) will be pleased to know that I bought Radiant Historia a couple of days ago.
Das Boot (1981): Watched the three-and-a-half hour director's cut and felt as if I'd emerged from a war after its conclusion lol. The movie takes a while to get going, because it's deliberately paced, but once it gets going, the movie is ungodly levels of intense. Little things like bolts exploding from pressure have more impact than a billion explosions in any Michael Bay movie. It's insane. The movie is definitely a test of patience, but if you have the will power, it's an incredible experience. Seeing this in theaters must have been something else.
Some Like it Hot (1959): A classic comedy, perhaps the greatest ever made. If you have not seen this, then your life is incomplete. Billy Wilder was the best. Jack Lemmon is also the best. He made me laugh my ass off the first time I saw the movie, and upon rewatch, I'm convinced it's one of the all-time great comic performances. Is anything he does in this movie not funny?
