Mine had so much bridge work, every time I kissed her, I had to pay toll.

EDIT: Yeah, tomorrow works a bit better than today for watching The Thing, so Thursday evening it is! Does 8 p.m. EDT sound good to everyone? Most importantly Trip lol.

Just as a quick update, my grandma is out of the hospital now and back with my uncle's family. I hear she's doing fine now, but I haven't been over to see her yet. Good to know she is better, though.

Also, if anyone wants to watch The Thing again, or for the first time, I'll be watching it with Trip either tomorrow or Thursday (depending on if I go to my uncle's house tomorrow) some time in the evening. Maybe 8 p.m. EDT? The MegaUpload link I had for the movie is still up here. It's a great horror movie -- my personal favorite -- so I encourage people to watch! I'll update this post when I know what's going on.

Waiting for Guffman (1996): Didn't like it quite as much as Best in Show, but it's still pretty funny. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up in one of these types of small towns. :p My favorite character is actually the music teacher, who is kind of like the Kif Kroker of the movie (except not quite as open with his exasperation). The weary sane man always makes me laugh.

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948): First Abbott and Costello I've seen (other than the "Who's on First?" bit, of course), and I was kind of disappointed. Not that it isn't funny, but it's not nearly as funny as movies from the other great comedians of the period (Chaplin, Buster Keaton, the Marx Brothers, etc.). I don't want to judge too harshly based on one movie, though; it's funny enough that I want to check out other Abbott and Costello movies to get a better view of them.

X-Men: First Class (2011): Not bad. I'm not as enthusiastic about the movie as some people, but it got me interested in watching the other X-Men movies. (Yes, I haven't seen them. I was always more of a Batman and Spider-Man kind of guy.) It's interesting to see the older generation of mutants as younger folks, and the action is pretty good. And I actually enjoy how history is incorporated into the plot. There's some cheesy Hollywood stuff, though (the "Mutant and proud" refrain had me rolling my eyes by the end), and January Jones is awful. This cannot be stated enough. She almost ruins the movie with her awfulness.

X-Men (2000): It was kind of weird seeing this movie and First Class open with basically the same scene, haha. (But I get that First Class is referencing this movie and bending the aftermath of the scene.) Not a bad movie to start off the trilogy; it has to introduce and juggle a ton of characters (and doesn't even get to all the major mutants), and then build a big supervillain scheme. I enjoyed the character stuff a lot more than the main plot, though.

Hereafter (2010): Fairly slow, gentle movie about three people who are affected by death. Maybe a bit too saccharine at the end, but it's mostly earned, so it's not such a big deal. Of the three stories, I thought Matt Damon's (he plays a psychic who can communicate with the dead) would be the most interesting, but I ended up enjoying Cecile de France's the most (she's a journalist who gets caught up in the tsunami that hit Thailand in 2004 and takes a while to recover). It's grounded and delicate in exploring the subject of death, whereas the whole psychic scenario is interesting but feels a bit out of place.

On the queue for this week: The Thing (1982), All About Eve (1950), Zatoichi (2003)
