Curse you, tiny toilet!

I've had a lot of fun lately joining in on the Skype chats lately while Des plays through Four Swords Adventures. Weirdly enough, staying up to watch those has made me feel more rested lately. Not really sure what is up with that, but I am not complaining.

The Rock (1996): Hey, look, a Michael Bay movie I actually enjoy! I will say, though, that it's 75 percent because it's a good action flick, and 25 percent because of all the unintentional comedy. Holy mother of god is there ever some hilariously awful dialogue in this movie. I swear, Sean Connery must have been cracking up behind the scenes at some of the shit he spews in The Rock. He's one of the few people who could make this crap sound even remotely cool. Add in Nicolas Cage in "I AM GOING TO OVERACT AND NOBODY IS GOING TO STOP ME HAHAHAHAHA" mode, and you have me laughing most of the time. But, hey, at least I enjoyed watching it.

Wanted (2008): This, on the other hand, just feels mailed in to me. There are crazy stunts galore, but the movie doesn't make me give a shit about what is happening (unlike The Rock, which actually has an interesting set-up). I've seen enough action movies that I'm not really interested in a series of stunts anymore, cool as they may be.

Green Zone (2010): Pretty good movie, although I think a lot of people took it way too seriously as a condemnation of the Iraq War (both those who support the movie and those who label it anti-American, btw). The plot basically reduces the intelligence blunders to a vague conspiracy in the American government. It's a solid movie plot; that's about it. The movie is essentially The Bourne Identity in Iraq -- genuinely good entertainment, but not some great political statement.

Despicable Me (2010): Definitely a cute, fun movie, although the story is a bit lighter than some of the stronger animated features of the past few years. Mostly worth watching for the humor -- there are some clever, funny bits here and there. And even though the Minions are clearly created to sell hordes of toys to little kids, they still won me over. The little bastards are just too adorable.

On the queue for this week: Waiting for Guffman (1997), Hereafter (2010)
