Our pets' heads are falling off!

Ugh, we've got another week of furloughs coming at work. Not good times. Bad times. Apparently we are getting an extra set of vacations in the next fiscal year to make up for this, though. I am skeptical about that actually working out.

The Fighter (2010): Definitely one of the better sports movies in the past few years ... frankly, I thought it was a lot better than The Blind Side from last year. Anyway, the acting accolades are definitely well deserved -- you see this, and you can't question Christian Bale or Melissa Leo getting Oscars for even a second. I think I enjoyed Leo's performance just a bit more, if only because she is so hilariously trashy.

Mega Piranha (2010): Watched again with Molly. Come on, Mega Piranha is awesome. The perfect cheesy monster movie. Giant piranha get stuck on houses! The main guy kicks flying piranha out of the air! A piranha eats a helicopter! How could anyone not love this?

Dumb and Dumber (1994): Been a long time since I watched this, and it's kind of a mixed bag for me now. There's still stuff that's hilarious -- the blind kid and the parakeet killed me, for instance, and I'll always enjoy the kung fu sequence in Jim Carrey's seduction fantasy. But other stuff is just there.

The Rebirth of Buddha (2009): This is an anime flick produced by what is apparently the Japanese equivalent of the Scientologists -- Happy Science. It's a weird ass movie, and painfully predictable because it follows such a strict formula ... the only thing that makes it memorable, I guess, is that it's supposed to be taken seriously even though it is so damn bizarre. I can't even properly describe it, although I will say that during one sequence the Buddha has a light sword and rides a white elephant. Also, he has psychic powers.

The craziest thing about the movie? It's better budgeted than most anime today. It actually looks pretty good, and there are a bunch of heavy hitters in the voice cast. You know, it would be hilarious if the parallels to Scientology ran so deep that a lot of these voice actors were secretly Happy Science members, haha.

On the queue for this week: 127 Hours (2010)
