Astro Fighter Sunred is freakin' hilarious. It's a crime that the second season hasn't been completely subbed. I am going to be a sad panda when I am done with the first season. WAIT I FOUND THE WHOLE THING YAY
Paprika (2006): Written about this plenty here before, so I'll just say this: Paprika is my least favorite Satoshi Kon movie, and yet I think it's better than 90 percent of anime movies I've seen. If that isn't an indicator of Kon's skill, then I don't know what is.
The Cat Returns (2002): Wow, this is surprisingly awesome. First off, the dub writers need some sort of medal, because the writing is hilarious. This is by far the funniest Ghibli movie I've seen. The story is pretty light, but it's decently inventive, and anything involving cats is pretty much hilarious. Also, the Baron is a badass. He is pretty much Prof. Layton if Layton were a cat in a suit.
Welecome to the Dollhouse (1995): This is basically the embodiment of middle school. It's absolutely hilarious and horrifically uncomfortable. (Funniest part: When the main character, Dawn, has to read an essay about dignity in the most undignified way possible in school.) Something I really appreciate is that Dawn isn't simply a geeky victim who absorbs the cruel ridicule of her classmates; she's kind of an asshole, too, taking the pain she gets from school and inflicting it on her family (who aren't exactly great people themselves, but you know). That made her easier to relate to for me in a weird way.
