Is it that hard to make us look cool?

There isn't much worse than being sick on days off. Lame.

Big Fan (2009): Good movie, and actually stuck in a certain direction for the duration, which surprised me. The description Netflix gives makes it seem like a different movie than it ends up being, haha. If you're a sports fan, then more likely than not you know someone like Paul Aufiero (Patton Oswalt) who eats, breathes and sleeps sports to an unhealthy degree. It's pretty funny, and it's also something to point to when elitist sports snobs say there are no geeks in the sports world. :P

Almost Famous (2000): Yet another in the series of, "Why the hell did it take me so long to see this??" movies. Basically a perfect coming of age movie. Can't think of a single thing I'd change. Even Kate Hudson totally nails Penny Lane; right person for the right role with the right kickass script at the right time. The weird thing about the movie is that I had actually seen a good number of its individual scenes before watching it (the plane ride, "I am a golden god!", Stillwater fighting over the t-shirts, etc.), so it was familiar and new to me at the same time in a bizarre way. Never really felt that way with a movie before, haha. I can also see this as a movie I will love more and more as I get older; the more you live life, the more you can appreciate just how lucky William is, I think.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920): Seen by many as one of the first true horror movies and also influential in a visual way, although very few movies take direct inspiration from Dr. Caligari's unique art direction. (The sets are all built so that everything -- buildings, trees, grass, etc. -- is at an angle and at exaggerated proportions, both smaller and larger than they should be, depending on the object. It creates the sense that everything is out to get the characters.) The plot is pretty bizarre even for a horror movie, and it has what is probably one of the first "Wait ... what?!" endings in movie history. I also found out that it is great fun to make up your own dialogue when title cards don't make it clear what the characters are saying.
