Garzey's Wing has the greatest English dub ever.

And here is video proof for those of you who doubt such a claim.

So after a bit of bad news (the hospital brought up the possibility of my dad having surgery last night, only to later say his potassium levels were too low), I needed a pick-me-up, and Garzey's Wing fit the bill. It's infamous as one of the shining examples of so bad it's good anime. (It was even the subject of Justin Sevakis' first Buried Garbage column at ANN.) The OVA is truly terrible on its own -- absolutely ridiculous pacing, dialogue consisting almost entirely of expository statements, a story that makes absolutely no sense despite said expository dialogue, bland characters who change roles and personalities at the drop of a hat, animation that ranges from bad to hilarious, etc. -- but it's the English dub that makes it a true classic. There are so many hilarious lines that I eventually lost count.

And of course I want to share this with all of you! Kat asked me to provide it for her yesterday, so hey, might as well make more use of the links.

So there you go. Watch the shame of Yoshiyuki Tomino's life to your heart's content. (Yes, the DVD cover proudly proclaims, "From the creator of Gundam!")

EDIT: Sorry for the double post. I got a weird error, but it seems the post went through just fine.

Yesterday suuuuuuuuuuuuuucked

Before that, though, just want to say my dad was admitted to the hospital today (well, more like he was forced by my mom to go) because he's been pretty sick lately. Appears as if he has an infection related to his diabetes; he might have surgery to drain the infection, and he'll almost certainly be there overnight. Thankfully, it does not seem to be quite as dire as it sounds ... I'm a horrible worrier about anyone close to me, so the whole time I had the worst case scenarios running through my mind, which is no fun at all. I'm just relieved that it's treatable.

Anyway, yesterday ... oi. Someone called in sick, so my shift was switched, which was definitely a bad omen. Then the front page I was working on got switched up four times, once fairly late in the evening when things should be set. (Thanks for making news last night, Toyota! Assholes. Stop making shitty cars.) And I had to spend a half hour working through bizarre problems with pages I don't even work on, because I was the only person left who could make sense of these things. (Basically, our electronic system wonked out and switched up pages that the publishers saw, which would have been horrendous for the paper and fairly embarrassing for us.) And, of course, putting the final paper out took forever, too, because my dumb computer kept fucking up. argh

The cherry on top when I got home: A jury summons. FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU JUDICIAL SYSTEM

Pretty much the worst timing ever since we have furloughs coming up and the schedules are already going to be super tight. My poor boss would be wringing his hair setting a decent schedule if he had any left.

Sigh. At least I stopped being a lazy ass and wrapped all the Christmas gifts I got. And I watched 2001 again! That was nice.

Anyway, world, please take care to not pile this shit on me any longer. Thanks. (By the way, of course this comes during a particularly bad rainy season here. wtfffffffffffffffffffffffff this is almost comically depressing)

EDIT: Ugh, this crap with my dad at the hospital is pissing me off. The surgery has been delayed the past two days, and it's just been delayed again today. I know the doctors are trying to be as safe as possible because they don't want anything to go wrong during surgery, but it's seriously maddening.

And the kicker? Apparently they won't get around to it next until Monday. So he's missing Christmas Eve and Christmas (of course, we're not going to celebrate without him at home, because that would be stupid). Now my dad is upset because he's been in the hospital since Tuesday and hasn't been able to accept new work, and he's a pretty sensitive guy with certain things, so he thinks his issues are ruining our Christmas. The holiday stopped being about the presents for me a long time ago; it ain't Christmas without him home, and I'll be sure to let him know that when I finally see him later today.

Don't know how long I'll be there, so we might be starting the movie business a bit later than normal tonight. We'll see.

Yeah ... see ya!

Just want to remind everyone that the Stepford Wives movie watch is not tonight because I'll be working. Thursday...

I have the best siblings ever.

So, my brother wants to do a Let's Play for Super Mario RPG and he and my sister decided to make a trailer for it. The original music didn't work, though, because when it becomes more lighthearted it makes my brother laugh too much, haha. Then they went through songs and were struck by how much "Requiem for a Dream" synced with the video ... and this is the result.

I can't stop watching this. My siblings have done me proud.

Oh boy.

How quickly am I going to hell for suggesting the slogan for this restaurant should be, "We feed you long time"?
