Just a Myth?

Chapter 3: What A Strange World I've Been Thrown Into

-Dante-

I stayed by Antiman’s bed side for a moment longer holding the lifeless hand in my own. That was the burden of living for so long. Things that you care about can come and go so easily from your life with the passage of time.

‘We will always be friends, even in the next life.’ I thought to him as I took a quiet breath and placed his hand on his still chest before leaving the room as the strange loud whistling sounds were practically on top of us. I made my way into Rayen’s bedroom and quietly closed the door. I sat down on the bed and listened to the commotion that was going on in the house.

Why didn’t I disobey my father? All I did was stand in the shadows and watch as he grew older and had a family of his own. So much has changed since we were little. What would he have thought seeing me not getting old as fast as he was? There were so many questions I wanted to ask him…but they will never be answered now.

Once the sounds of the loud whistles faded into the distance Rayen came into the bedroom. I could see how tense she was and that she was holding back tears. I got up and went over to her wrapping my arms around her. “You can cry.” I said quietly and she started sobbing into my chest.

For a few minuets there were just Rayen crying. When she started calming down she said, “I-I don’t think I’m going to school tomorrow.”

“Okay, but don’t you have to notify your family that Antiman died?” I asked not looking down at her.

I felt her hair lightly brush against my bare skin. “The hospital will do it.” She answered.

“Um…I know that it’s a bad time to ask but, what is school?” I wondered a bit curious as to what it was.

This got her to laugh a little and actually wrap her arms around my waist, “It’s a place where I go to learn things.” She answered.

“Oh okay.” Was all I could say to her, “Sorry that it is an awkward time to ask that kind of question.” I apologized.

She chuckled, “No it’s okay.” Then she let go of me and I backed away from her slightly to look down at her. “I don’t get you, we just met…”

“Well isn’t that what your supposed to do when someone’s sad?” I asked a bit confused. “That’s what my mother always did when I cried or was sad.” I said.

“No, no it’s alright, it is. Thank you.” She said wiping away her tears.

After she calmed down I felt really drained. I couldn’t tell if it was from all the tension or form how much blood I lost today. “Should we head to bed?” I asked trying to hold down a yawn.

“Yea…what would be a good idea.” She said in a sad tone.

“Good night then.” I smiled a little trying to get her to smile, but I didn’t get one back before I wandered back out to the couch and sat down.

She came out with a blanket a minuet after I sat down and laid it next to me on the couch. “Thank you.” I stated and she nodded and muttered a small good night before heading back to her room and closing the door.

When I laid down the couch was very comfortable, even though it was kind of small I couldn’t really complain because it was more comfortable then the ground that I’ve always slept on. With in minuet’s I closed my eyes and was fast asleep.

The strange sound of water running like a waterfall quickly woke me up from my dreamless sleep. “Where is that coming from?” I muttered to myself as I sat up. My ears were constantly twitching from the sound. I knew for a fact that the closest waterfall was a ten minuet walk away. There was no way I could hear it inside this house. Practically all sounds from outside were shut off once you closed that front exit. I got up and started looking around for the sound. It got louder the closer I got to this room where steam was rolling out of it lightly.

I poked my head into the room and I was able to make out a silhouette of someone on the other side of the room that was where the sound was coming from. “Princess are you in here?” I asked but I didn’t get a response. I waited for a few minuets longer and was about to go in and see who the silhouette belonged to when the waterfall stopped and the curtain was pushed to the side and a wall of steam came rolling out from behind it hiding most of the persons body when it cleared a little I could see that it was Rayen was the naked silhouette. I felt my face heat up quickly and I pulled myself off the wall and quickly walked back to the room where I slept and sat down on the couch trying my best to steady my heart.

“Did you enjoy the show?” She asked walking out with nothing more then some sort of small blanket covering her important parts and her chest.

I felt my face get a little bit hotter as I looked away from her, “What were you even doing in that room?” I asked.

“I was bathing. You do know what that is don’t you?” I could just hear her smile in her voice.

“O-of course I know what bathing is.” I answered her.

“Did you want more of a show?” She asked and I looked over at her to see her drop her towel a little bit revealing more of her cleavage.

“No, no, just please put some clothes on.” I replied looking away again.

This made her chuckle, “Alright, I’ll be right back.” Then I heard her walk back into her room and close the door.

I exhaled the breath that I was holding in and slouched more into the couch in relief. I perked back up when I heard her door open again and looked to see her coming out fully clothed. “You should take a shower too.” She told me and I tilted my head and raised and eyebrow at her a bit confused as to what a “shower” was.

“What’s a shower?” I asked

She giggled then motioned for me to follow her. I got up and did so. She took me back to the room that she was naked in and steam was coming out of earlier and took me over to this strange white thing that had sliver knobs and other things in it.

“This is a tub, and this is where you take baths and showers.” She showed me how to turn it on and how to adjust the temperature of the water, which was amazing. I’ve never heard of being able to control how warm of cold the water was before.

I looked up and saw these strange cups that had lids with a weird colored liquid in them and I picked on up. “What’s this?” I asked.

“That’s a shampoo bottle. You wash your hair with it and it helps get the dirt out of your hair. And that other one is body soap. It helps clean your body.” She answered.

“So it’s like an herbal bath…” I muttered to myself looking at the bottle. But how could these humans fit something like an herbal bath in a bottle?

“Here’s a towel to help dry yourself off once your done.” I looked to see her set another one of those little blankets on the counter by the tub.

“Thank you.” I blinked still a bit confused about all of this.

“Your welcome.” She smiled and then walked out of the bathroom closing the door behind her.

“So I guess I just handle this like I’m getting in a bath or a pool of water.” I muttered to myself setting the shampoo bottle down and got undressed.

It was difficult to figure out what was a comfortable temperature, but when I settled on a warm temperature it was actually nice. When I put some of the liquid in my hand it came out more like a gel kind of. And it smelled like strawberries. How did these human’s get the sent of Strawberries into this gel state with no seeds in it? Everything was so confusing. I just sighed and rubbed it into my hair and when I looked at my hands again there were these white suds on my hands. Again this made no since at all. I guess this is what happens when you’re cut off from the human society for a long time.

After washing out the suds completely and then using the body soap, which somehow smelled like basil, mixed with something that I’d never smelled before and it came out of a white bottle with a red cap on it. It said “Old Spice” on the front of it too. Which if it was old then why was it still in here? Or was it to designate the difference between Rayen’s things and Antiman’s things? Oh I don’t know…I’m so confused. I used it rinsed myself off then shut off the water and got out.

I dried off using the small blanket that Rayen called a towel and then got dressed once again, but I didn’t put my shirt on all the way. Instead I had it resting on my arms so that my back could dry a bit more. It was very hard to dry yourself with so much steam in closed in the same room. I opened the door and a smell of cooking fish wisped up into my senses. I flowed the smell into this new area of the house that I had yet to be in. There were large things and counters with a table and chairs.

“Did you have a nice shower?” Rayen asked as I heard a click from whatever she was standing in front of and then she turned around and I saw her cheeks flush a little.

“What you like what you see?” I asked with a smirk playing at my lips.

“P-put your shirt back on.” She said turning to get something out of a cupboard as she turned I could see her cheeks turn a little more red.

“I’m letting my back dry. I can strip down further if you would rather me do that for you.” I stated as she put whatever she was cooking on a plate and grabbed utensil out of a drawer then slid the plate to me across the counter.

“You’re fine just the way you are.” She said then instantly stood up and her face was beat red. “I-I mean um…J-just eat your food.” She said and went into a tall thing and it lit up as she opened it and pulled something out.

This house was just full of so many strange objects that I had no idea what they were or even if it was safe to go near them. This is going to take a lot of getting use to if I have to stay here to protect her as I try to find my mother. I tired once, but I couldn’t connect to her telepathically for some reason. Is it the walls of this place that’s keeping me from reaching her? So many questions and I have no idea where to even start with asking them if I really even wanted to ask them that is. What if it was a stupid question? Then I would sound like an idiot. I probably already have sounded like an idiot with not knowing what shampoo or body soap was. *sigh* I’ll just have to try later after eating breakfast.
