1st Semester, Week One

“God Raze, you were vicious out there. Cinder and I were watching. Where the hell do you get it from? Jeez, poor kid looked like he wanted to barf the entire time.” Izunami muttered as they walked back to their quad.

“Whatever you say man, he was really tough.” She rolled her shoulder back and forth, rubbing it with her hand. “I’m going to be sore for a week.”

“Well you didn’t seem to mind at the time.” Jenn put in.

Raze shrugged. “When you get hit enough, you learn to like it I guess. During the spar its fine and dandy, keeps me going even, but after it just hurts like hell.” She huffed, accepting the fact that no amount of rubbing would fix the burn in her shoulder. “He even messed up my shirt. I don’t know what kind of weapon he is, but its something with fire.” She thought about how Gail would react when she told her sister that bit. Her stomach dropped. Would she want to be partners with that weirdo? Raze decided not to tell her sister about Chide’s power just in case.

Gail was in the living room of the shared quad when Izunami and Raze got back. Her meister class must have gotten let out early.

"Hey sis," Gail greeted. "Did you kick ass?"

Nami snorted and then stopped, wondering if they'd take offense or something. Just because the were quad mates didn't mean the Harlows had to be any sweeter to her. Neither Gail nor Raze looked particularly offended though.

Raze huffed. "Not really. It was even." Gail's eyes widened. Raze scoffed. "It ain't my fault though. The son of a bitch is actually strong." Gail shrugged. Her text books were strewn about the table, but they didn't look touched. "Are you studying?" Her sister groaned.

"Don't get me started, I have so much work to do."

"Did you pay the phone bill?" Raze tossed her bag beside the couch and trudged into her shared room.

"Yeah," Gail called. "Hey, stay out here if you're tryna chat, yeah?"

"Whatever!"

Raze heard Jenn on the phone with her boyfriend. Nami was in the bathroom and things were generally extremely boring. She flopped down on her bed, thankful that it was a friday. Tomorrow, she would go to the gym and it was chicken finger day for lunch in the caf and nothing kept her from a full plate of twenty little nuggets of joy drowning in honey mustard. She drooled just thinking about it. It was just like her to be thinking three meals in advance.

In the living room, Gail was racking her brains trying to think of all the different equations she'd learned in the past week alone that might be on her math quiz yet she was too disgusted to open a book. She would eventually, and Raze knew she'd get an A, just like she usually did. Miraculously, Gail usually made the dean's list. Raze got B's usually, sometimes a C here or there. She wasn't an ideal student, many teachers would probably say she was a terror, but at least she didn't fail and that was more than Gail could ask of her. She was too unruly to push to study harder.

Math equations turned into meister techniques and Gail double checked her sync with Raze's soul - the only real connection she was skilled in and it could really only be attributed to shared DNA. She sunk lower in the couch wondering how the hell she could ever make the same connection with anybody but her twin. It seemed inordinately impossible. Weapons from her homeroom flashed through her mind, all equally unrelatable. She felt like lashing out at someone.

"Jenn's cooking," Nami called from her room, "Gail, you eating?"

Gail groaned to herself. She wanted to yell at the stupid girl for even talking to, but she was her quad mate and they really needed to try and get along, even if she was annoying the shit out of her 24/7. Gail had no idea how Raze was putting up with it.

"Yeah."

"Sai's coming over, too,"

Gail actually screamed into the pillow.
