Square One
J. came over last night and told me that we were not granted rights by the playwrite's agent to perform the play. J. was really upset about it (although he is amazing at not showing it). This is the second fully designed play that he's made for this production in December and the second that has been pulled. So we have to start all over again. Personally, I'm really bummed, just because this play was so amazing and we were really rolling with it, not to mention all the work that's gone into it already. But things like this happen. So J. has to find a whole other play that he likes and we'll do the whole process all over again.
Rewind
Let's back up a bit and talk about other things so my last post doesn't sound totally out of context.
I moved into my house last week. Things were going well. I'm still a little angry about last night but I'm sure it will be like this all year. I better just get used to it. The highlight of moving into this house though, is that L. has a kitten. She's pretty adorable.
I had a full production meeting with J. and the rest of the design team the other day. I'm really excited to work with such creative people. This production is going to be bomb.
In the way of cosplay, I decided to keep what I had and move forward. I think I will redo the bias tape though. I hope this turns out well.
Looking back at it, this summer has been kind of an epic fail. I didn't get anything done that I had hoped to, except read a lot (the total as of today is 28 books. I wonder if I can get it to 30 before classes start). That happens, I guess.
Hm. Well, classes start tomorrow and then life will pick up. I have to work at 7am tomorrow. Not excited about that but oh well. Until next time all.
Great Timing
I came home tonight from a day-cation to find all of my housemates drunk. And who is with me? My family, of course. They are so drunk in fact that L. can't get off the floor and E. has passed out already.
What a super end to my night.
Waffling
After washing my fabric and letting it air dry over night, I awoke to find that it had lightened tremendously. It went from dark brown to a paler orange. It's at a shade that I'm okay with. But now I can't decided if I want to start over from scratch or keep with what I've got. To be quite honest, the fabric is a tad too orange still, and not enough yellow. Then I thought, "Should I even be wearing that much yellow?"
I'm one of those Asians who looks completely jaundiced in any shade of yellow.
I'm at that hard place between what looks good on you as a person and what is accurate to your cosplay character. And if I don't start over, am I okay with all the little things that could have gone better on a second try that didn't happen?
Uweh, I can't decide!!! I hate being undecisive!
...How does that work?
So I finally went to the laundromat to lighten my fabric for cosplay. Wet the fabric, add the remover, wait until agitation, add fabric, check fabric. Simple enough. I check it three minutes in and my fabric has gone from bright orange to a deep brown. I...really don't know what happened there. That doesn't even make any color sense to me.
In the end, I'm left with a ruined main component of my cosplay. I thought about maybe trying to re-dye it with a yellow but I have a feeling that won't work very well so I'm just going to start over from scratch. That sucks. But it happens. This cosplay thing is mostly about trial and error anyways. I shudder at the thought of working with that bias tape again. On the bright side, I know more or less what I'm doing this time and I will have the chance to get a properly sized garment (the one I originally had was a tad bit too small).
Sigh. Back to the beginning....
