Ladies and gentlemen, the great Phil Collins.
Greetings all. I have emerged from the Fire Emblem hole just long enough to bring you this monthly update. That's my way of saying that I've been playing the new Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave game pretty heavily for a little over a week now.
I have to say, this is probably the best Fire Emblem game I've played yet. Of course I've only ever played three games in the series, so take my praise with a grain of salt. It is pretty easy to lose track of time playing any of the Fire Emblem titles though, which is why I think of playing one as like getting sucked into a black hole. It's a pretty fun black hole to get sucked into though. It can also make one's weekend pass in the blink of an eye.
Well, this month has been one filled with significant anniversaries. I'll start with the big one. It's now been twenty-five years since the 9/11 attacks happened. That was a day that affected everyone in some way or another, whether or not they had some personal connection to someone who was caught up in the tragedy. That event was like someone hurling a giant rock into a pond. A rock that large sends ripples all across the pond's surface. Speaking for myself, there's very little about that day that I don't remember, and I think I'll always remember that it was a Tuesday. One thing that happened near the end of that dark day was my dad giving me the Phil Collins album, No Jacket Required (the album that the song at the beginning this post is from) to try and cheer me up.
It was also around the time of the 9/11 attacks twenty-five years ago that I got my first brief glimpse of the 1990s Sailor Moon anime. I say brief because at the time my local cable provider didn't have the Cartoon Network, but one of the local networks showed some episodes from the series for a couple of weeks as part of a special Toonami block. It was that small taste of Sailor Moon that truly made me into an anime fan. Of course these days you couldn't pay me to watch the original English dub of the 90s anime, and even with the new dub I still think the original manga version is superior. Actually, I'd say that Sailor Moon Crystal and it's movie sequels are slightly superior to the manga, but only because the way they ended the Galaxia arc in that adaptation was a little less ambiguous than the way they ended things in the manga.
As for the other big anniversary that happened this month, it was sixty years ago September 8th that the original Star Trek premiered on national T.V., bringing into the world a beloved sci-fi franchise that still endures to this day. I've watched Star Trek since I was five, so this was definitely an anniversary worth noting.
I think that about covers it for this month's post. Originally I had planned to talk about how I've been in a creative slump with my writing since early July, but it seems like I might finally be starting to come out of it. As for my job, things are still about the same, but I did have a job interview over the phone a little earlier today. It's not a job that I'm super eager to get, but it'd at least be a little more stable than what I have now. Anyway, I think I shall leave off here and dive back into the Fire Emblem hole!
