And now, a winter poem by Red Green.
Greetings once again, everyone. I'm back once again with another monthly update about the state of my life. Well, we're in January again, and January has never been my favorite month of the year. For one thing, this is the month when Old Man Winter stops giving us all festive snowy wonderlands and starts giving us the finger. Plus it's just such a bland month. It's like the most festive thing to do in January is wait in line at the DMV. Incidentally, I did have to renew my drivers license recently, but I was able to do it online. Next time though, I will have to actually go into the DMV to get it renewed.
Anyway, despite this being the dullest month on the calendar, I've actually been in a pretty upbeat mood for the past few weeks. In fact the other afternoon at work, it occurred to me that perhaps things were going a little too well lately, and that there might be some catastrophe on the horizon because things were going so well. I know that's kind of a messed up way to think, but that is sadly how things in life often go. So during that same afternoon at work I started wondering what sort of tragedy I might be in store for. I had gotten my annual physical the week before, and I started thinking they might find something wrong with my blood test results. Thankfully, that was not the case. Still, something did indeed go wrong during the last few days.
The Anime News Network reported that the theatrical release of the new Madoka Magica movie in Japan would be delayed yet again.
I already did a short post about the movie being delayed again a couple of days ago, so I'm not going to rant about it again here. But since I'm on the subject, I will admit that the new Madoka movie being delayed again is not the worst thing that could've happened. I'm reminded of the classic Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode where they their own version of "The Monkey's Paw" by W. W. Jacobs. Towards the end of the segment, Homer uses the paw to wish for a turkey sandwich, making sure to include conditions in the wish to avoid any supernatural consequences such as eating the sandwich and turning into a turkey himself. So the paw conjures a turkey sandwich, Homer takes a bite out of it, and he discovers that the turkey is a little dry.
The new Madoka movie getting postponed again is more or less the same as the turkey being a little dry. But just like Homer in that Treehouse of Horror segment, I am still cursing the heavens about it.
Anyway, in spite of the setback with the Madoka movie, this has still been a pretty good month for me. The big reason is because I've been doing some actual writing again. I've been working on a Pokémon fanfic that I had an idea for shortly after Legends: Arceus came out a few years ago, but it's only just now that I've started making actual progress on the story. Not only do I have at least part of an outline for it, I've also written drafts for the first four chapters. If I can keep up this level of progress, my plan is to edit and post the first chapter on Pokémon Day next month.
The story will be an AO3 exclusive for reasons I won't get into here, and it probably won't be a story I'll update often. This is partly because I'm also still working on a big Sailor Moon fanfic that isn't anywhere close to being done, and partly because I still don't have an ending in mind for this Pokémon fanfic, which is kind of a problem but also kind of a good thing because it means I could potentially work in things that upcoming Pokémon games might do. For instance, it is reported that Legends: Z-A will be getting updated with additional side missions on Pokémon Day. It's very likely that these will be very small side missions, though I am holding out some hope that one of the missions will be a secret super boss fight against Volo from Legends: Arceus, who is implied by an NPC in the Lumiose City Museum to still be alive in the modern era.
I think that about covers it for this month's post. Other than "the turkey being a little dry", this has been a pretty good month for me. Hopefully next month will go just as well or better.
