Monthly Update: August 2025

Ladies and gentlemen, the Legendary Genesis.

Hello again everyone. I had kind of a hard time deciding on a music video to put at the start of this post. With these posts I've been trying to pick pieces of music that at least partly fit with something that's happened to me during the course of the month, but it seems like a lot had happened to me during the course of this particular month. So in the end I went with "I Can't Dance" by Genesis, because it is sort of a summertime song. Or at least the beginning of it is.

Anyway, I guess the biggest event for me from this month was this major thunderstorm that struck my town very early on Saturday morning about three weeks ago. I was awakened by my phone at about 5:45 AM about a really severe thunderstorm warning being issued for my county. I got online and checked the weather radar to see what was happening, and at the time it looked like the storm was just going to harmlessly pass by my town. So I tried to go back to sleep, but a couple of minutes later I heard my dad moving around upstairs. He had gotten up to watch the local news coverage of the storm, so I decided I should probably do the same and switched on my T.V.

It turned out that the storm in question was barreling right towards my town. Not only that, this storm was producing winds that were clocked at over 80 mph, and I soon learned that such winds are about as bad as a tornado. At 6:30 the power was knocked out, and that was only the beginning. Half of a large tree in the backyard of our neighbor behind us got knocked into our backyard, taking out a good chunk of his chainlink fence in the process. At the same time, an entire section of wooden fence belonging to another neighbor behind us also blew into our backyard, along with a plastic tool shed of theirs that was soon shattered into several pieces.

Meanwhile, a tree that my dad had planted in our front yard got blown over at a pretty good angel, though thankfully wasn't totally uprooted. My dad is trying to do everything he can to save the poor thing. If that wasn't enough though, my new car unfortunately suffered some damage from the storm. My car was actually parked in the two car garage of my neighbor across the street. She only has one car so she lets me use the extra space, ironically so that my car wouldn't suffer damage from the elements. The thing is my neighbor also had these big wooden panels leaning against the wall of her garage next to where I park my car, and those winds were strong enough to knock those panels into the left side of my car and left a couple of small but noticeable dents along the edge of the roof. My neighbor said she'd pay for at least part of the repairs to fix the dents though, so my car will be going into the bodyshop towards the end of next month.

Anyway, that storm wasn't in town for too long, but it was not a pleasant way to start a Saturday. Power was restored to my place by the afternoon. All things considered though, my neighborhood seemed to get off pretty lucky. There were major injuries all over town from this storm and at least two fatalities. A few warehouse workers got trapped because the storm caved in part of their roof.

So I guess that's the biggest thing to happen to me this month. If anyone is interested in any of the other things I've had going on, go on ahead to the next page of the post.
