Monthly Update: Jan. 2025

Ladies and gentlemen, the Beatles.

Hello again everyone. I'm back after another month to tell you all about how things have been going for me since my previous update. I suppose I should start by explaining the choice behind the music video I opened this post with.

When this month started, I ended up coming down with a really bad cold. Actually it might've been something other than a cold, because my dad caught it a few days after I got through the worst of it, and he said he had developed a fever for one night. I guess I had probably developed a fever at one point as well, but I think at the time I was just out of it enough that I hadn't bothered to check my temperature. Anyway, the first night I had this cold, I also developed a really nasty migraine that also prevented me from getting any real sleep that night. During the course of that night, the Beatles song that I chose for the opening of this post inexplicably got stuck in my head, and remained stuck there for the most of the month.

I'd now like to take a moment to call attention to a rather troubling event that I had first learned about late Thursday night when I visited YouTube. A video that came up on YouTube's main page reported that Crunchroll suffered a rather significant data breach. Someone had managed to get the login information for at least a few hundred Crunchyroll premium accounts and posted them on the social media platform we're now all calling X.

The Anime News Network only just recently covered the story yesterday. You can read their brief article about the incident by clicking here.

As soon as I had seen the video reporting this data breach, I immediately changed the password for my Crunchyroll account. If anyone reading has a Crunchyroll account of their own, I strongly urge them to take a few moments right now to change your passwords as well. I should probably mention that the only way to change your password fro Crunchyroll right now is to log out of your account and hit the little link on the login page that says you forgot your password. The site will then send you an email allowing you to change your password to something that hasn't likely been exposed to the world by now. Also, make sure that nobody used your account to order something expensive from the Crunchyroll Store in your name.

Anyway, this month has certainly felt like kind of an ugly one. In addition to that bad "cold" I had at the start of the month, I also had to help move my aunt from an assisted living place to a memory care facility because of her advancing dementia. That happened last Saturday and took the whole damn day. Of course the hardest part of the whole ordeal was seeing my aunt in her current state. She's basically just a giant elderly toddler at this point.

Of course this month hasn't been all bad. I watched the Madoka Magica movie trilogy, though not all at once because of my damn "cold". In retrospect, I should've realized going in that the first two movies were just compilations of the original series. They had added a few really cool visuals, but they were more or less skippable. I should've just skipped right to the third movie, Rebellion. According to ANN, Rebellion is finally supposed to be getting a sequel sometime during the winter of this year. There have even been a few official trailers for the movie, which I will go ahead and show here.

Trailer 1

Trailer 2

Trailer 3

The third trailer of course is the most recent. As I said earlier though, all we know about the movie's release date is that it's supposed to come out during the winter of this year. No telling when (or even if) it'll come to U.S. theaters. I'm really eager to see this movie though, because I had forgotten how *bleep*ed up the end of Rebellion had left things. It took them about twelve freaking years for them to finally give us a sequel that will hopefully give us some closure. Of course this sort of delay isn't unprecedented. Look how long it took for the fairly recent Gundam SEED Freedom movie to finally come out.

Let's just hope that the evil oversized Oompa-Loompa we have in the White House doesn't mess up the world too much before the new Madoka movie comes out. Anyway, I think that's all the important stuff I have to report for now.

Until the day we meet again.
