New York Comic Con 2008

Hey everyone. I'm sorry that I haven't been around at all for the last couple of weeks. I really intended not to let this happen on the new site but school got the better of me. The end of the semester has been far busier than I thought it would be. So, to everyone who signed my guestbook, thank you. I'll be returning the favor in my full guestbook run at some point in the very near future.

That said I'll move onto this weekend, which has been fantastic.

Earlier in the year, my friend called me and said we were going to Comic Con this year. Evidently, I had no choice but I agreed anyway since it seemed like it would be a good time. Two days down, I can say without hesitation that I was completely right in that assumption.

I'll go into more detail after it's all over (plus, I'm really tired at the moment) but I'll at least go over the highlights tonight. Friday started off great. My friend and I got to play Dragonball Z Burst Limit (which was our original inspiration for going - just to play that game) for quite a while which was fun. We ended up talking to the guy running the booth and he ended up giving us each one of the shirts that they weren't giving out until Saturday so that was lucky.

Following the convention on Friday, we went over to a party held in celebration of another friend's graduation from the Police Academy. This also ended up being a lot of fun. Now, I'm generally really good with meeting new people but I'm sure you've all experienced the (at the very least) slight awkwardness of being in a group of people you didn't know. Interestingly enough though, that didn't happen with this group (of which I knew maybe 6 of the 25 or so people that were there at the beginning of the night) so that was nice.

We both held Friday in extremely high regard after everything that happened and didn't think we'd be able to top it but Saturday really worked out fantastically. The three big events of the day would have warranted the trip on their own. The first thing that happened was when we ended up back at the booth we were playing DBZ at. We were told on Friday that they'd have hats to give out on Saturday. When we got there though, we found out that they were to be randomly thrown into the crowd - not given out individually. Luckily for us, the guy snuck us two of them on the side.

Now, the first event isn't all that grand on its own but what it leads to is amazing. I, like many others, have been a fan of Dragonball Z for a long time. I'm also sure I can speak for many in saying that it is one of the few animes where I prefer the English voice acting to the Japanese. Well, it turns out that Sean Schemmel (Goku's voice actor) was there signing autographs which was great because Goku is easily my favorite character of the series. Unfortunately, the line was closed as it wrapped around the booth due to a fire hazard and they weren't letting any more in. Lucky break number three (if you're counting) comes in here in the form of the guy turning people away letting us sneak in. So with our newly acquired hats and a rather awesome picture of Goku, Buu, Cell, and maybe Frieza, we got in line and each got both signed.

The night ended just as amazingly as it started. To close Saturday night, T.M.Revolution was playing and this was their first performance in the U.S. in four years. To be honest, I knew virtually nothing about them short of the fact that they did the closing theme for Rurouni Kenshin and some music for Gundam Seed. However, a chance like this doesn't come along often - especially because they weren't charging extra. So, after waiting in line for just over an hour and a half, we got in and saw T.M.Revolution play live. And as a special bonus, one of the songs they played (the intro to a new anime I didn't catch the name of) happened to be their first live performance of it ever.

So, that covers my amazing weekend thus far. I said I was only hitting highlights but in the end, I guess that covers pretty much everything of importance that happened on Friday and Saturday. We'll see if Sunday can stack up to the previous two days tomorrow (or today, depending on how you want to look at it). I realize how late notice this is but if any of you are going to be there, send an email to with a location if you feel like meeting up. I'll get it on my phone and come find you at whatever time you'll be around.

I'm going to wrap this up here and move on to comments now though because I'm tired. Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Dagger:
Ah, papers... I've got a couple to write in the next week or so myself. Fun times...

Sabrina:
A little late I realize but I do hope you did well on your test!

PhoenixClawth:
Congratulations on your good scores! And as long as you know someone who has a Wii, you should be fine for now.
