I am glad to know this

So I used to get offended when I heard someone who was weak or afraid being referred to as a "pussy" because, you know, it kind of insinuates that girls are weak and bad, right? And apparently this occurred to someone else as well. Someone on Tumblr posted this:
why do people say “don’t be a pussy” when talking about weakness more like “don’t be a man’s ego” because you know there isn’t nothing more fragile than that

And someone else had the answer for where that word--and its use--actually came from:
uh
because “pussy” is the shortened form of the word “pusillanimous”, which means “timid, cowardly”
and not the slang word for the genital region?

Really? Because I feel like everyone who actually uses that word does not mean it in this manner, they do mean it to be derogatory and profane, but still, I feel less offended knowing that it started from an actual, scholarly word, and people should be informed of this. Wikipedia backs me up. Pusillanimous is a word, derived from the latin pusillus (very small) and animus (spirit).
I thought it was important that people know this. From now on, I am going to use the full word to spare any offense.
