Dimension of Dreams

“Are you sure you cannot communicate with the gods, Lady Ariana?” Christian inquired.

“I haven’t tried,” Ariana twisted a fold of her kimono in her lap as she watched the others. “Do you think…that I could reach Asgard, at the very least?” She ditched her kimono fold to run a hand over her staff, tracing the intricate symbols. “Or…maybe Mount Olympus?”

“Why not Kuan-Yin at the shrine?”

Ariana nodded and yawned, “That’s a good idea.”

Everyone had mostly gone to bed, and Ryuu had let her stay on the couch for the night. She looked out a window onto the strange landscape of the dimension with tired eyes. She bit her lip.

Lying back on the couch and drawing the blanket around her, she closed her eyes to rest, exhausted by the events of the past day. “I’ll try tomorrow…good night.”

Christian watched over her, and, being a demon, he didn’t need sleep. The incredibly handsome demon butler watched in silence as the fallen angel, Kuro, made his way outside. He saw a shimmering magical circle appear around the house and a smaller circle in the kitchen appear, with Kuro standing in the middle of it.

Interesting, he thought while he heard the beginnings of a spell, if Kuro can get us out of this dimension as well as get us in another one then he has quite the ability.

Truth be told, he was able to move through the other dimensions easily, for he was a demon. As a matter of fact, he could’ve gotten everyone out of there, if he wanted. But honestly, he didn’t feel like it…unless Lady Ariana told him to of course. Sometimes being a Pactmaker had its downsides.

A little while later, Kuro staggered out of the kitchen and collapsed in a chair across from the sofa.

“Tired?” Christian politely asked the fallen angel.

Kuro brought his head up quickly when he spoke, “Huh?”

“You are tired, correct?”

“Oh, yeah,” Kuro grinned (tiredly, Christian noted) and sank back into the chair. “I just moved us out of the dimension we were in. The question is though; I don’t know which one we’re in now.”

Well, that complicates things. Christian grimly hoped that they weren’t in Hades; he didn’t feel like negotiating with the god of the dead himself right now. Getting up from his sofa, he stepped over to the window, lifted the curtain, and looked out.

A beautiful sky was filled with colors that made it look like a wonderful painting, swirling with clouds and filled with stars that darted across it. It was like seeing the universe in the sky, with the planets floating in it. A meadow of grass swayed from side to side in a gentle breeze and at the bottom of a hill was a winding river, colored the clearest blue. And even though every entrance to the house was closed, with his demonic scenting skill, he could smell delectable fruit and aromatic flowers and plants.

Letting the curtain fall from his grasp, he went back to his place. “It’s better than I thought.”

“Why?”

Christian looked at the fallen angel and smiled, his turquoise blue eyes sparkling in the darkness, “You brought us to the dream dimension.”

Kuro looked at the demon. “What’s the dream dimension?”

Smirking to himself, he ran a hand through Ariana’s hair. “You really haven’t been dead that long, have you.” Not waiting for an answer, he continued. “The dream dimension is a place that holds all the dreams ever dreamt. You can create your own reality here.” He lifted a finger. “But only in this dimension, not our worlds.”

“So,” Kuro appeared to be in deep thought, “Like if I wished for something to eat—”

“No, that’s the Wish Dimension. Here, you need to dream about it—or think it. After all, isn’t thinking just dreaming while you are awake?”

Kuro looked unsure as he closed his eyes. A moment later a plate of food appeared in his lap and his eyes widened when he felt it.

Christian smirked and continued stroking Ariana’s hair while he ate, waiting for the others to wake up.

“You know,” Kuro said through a mouthful of food, “This Dream Dimension might be pretty cool.”

“Hmm,” Christian was wary at the thought. After all, dreams aren’t reality, no matter how real they seem.
