Plot

After attending his mother’s funeral, Mizuo is still trying to come to terms with her death so he decides to walk around to clear his mind. Mizuo is sitting on the beach when he feels someone’s presence behind. A voice calls to him. He turns to see a girl, about his age, staring at him in amazement and overjoyed of his return.

She introduces herself as Minami Hamasaki, a girl Mizuo grew up with as a child but never saw again because her family moved away a long time ago. Minami brings up a promise from the past, asking that Mizuo give her a ride on the ocean using the “Soaring Gull”. Naturally, Mizuo sternly refuses to take her out to sea because his fears from his father’s mysterious accident. Minami brings up the fact she will only be in town for the summer and insists that only he give her a ride on the “Soaring Gull”.

However, Mizuo doesn’t remember a Minami Hamasaki so he goes asking Sanae if she remembers. Sanae clearly remembers a Minami Kazuharu saying that they both were inseparable as kids until she had to leave for the city to see a doctor. Minami suffered a skin condition that made her sensitive to sea water because of certain minerals it contained. Why would Minami want to go out to sea knowing she has such a condition? Mizuo needs to make up his mind if he can overcome his past fears and take the helm of the “Soaring Gull” for the sake of a promise he vaguely remembers.
