Of Life, Love and the Journey to Maturity

The two clash, and what began as goading on Kyoko’s part turned into a fight to the death that was barely stopped by Homura. Kyoko hates Sayaka’s forthright justice and love approach and does all in her power to end that “delusion,” going so far as to give the best option in gaining her love in both body and soul. Just destroy his limbs and he’d have no choice but to cling to Sayaka. Cold, menacing, wicked. And through all this, Sayaka begins her decent into madness. How could a world that was meant to protect humanity be so cut throat? Why can’t there be more like Mami? These questions fuel the fire that was lit in her heart by Kyoko.

So it was, that when she learned that her body is nothing but a shell of existence and her soul is caged in a small gem, the world for her shattered. Even I wasn’t left untouched by this. I was speechless from the moment Madoka cast Sayaka’s Soul Gem from the bridge till Homura placed it back in Sayaka’s cold, dead hand and she woke up none the wiser. The first thing out of my mouth was, “What the fuck!”

Clinging to the broken shards she listens to Kyoko’s story of why she became a magical girl. Kyoko was once like Sayaka, justice and love in her heart, till the world and her life fell to the destructive hands of Kyubee’s world. Kyoko truly felt for Sayaka, and it was the aforementioned revelation that helped her realize that. But Sayaka didn’t want any of that. She wasn’t human, wasn’t even alive, so how could she love, or even be loved. Do I smell regret? Big time.

Now, the world she so loved, worked so hard to defend didn’t “need” her anymore. She was just one of a million. A zombie designed for combat, designed to kill witches. No longer caring for her own redemption, she charges madly on, till she finally does break and become what she’s been fighting against. A witch.

Kyoko, in all her love, wishes to save her. To regain back what she threw away when her wish went sour. So despite the warnings of the now space alien Kyubee, protector of the universe’s entropy, and heeded by the knowledge that it is this cycle of MG to witch that Kyubee thrives off of, Kyoko forges ahead against the witch Sayaka and pleas for her humanity. An impossible act.

Left with the option of running and letting the cold and selfish Homura finish the job, or to die with her love. She chose the latter. Not just to be with Sayaka till the end but to stop her inevitable transformation into the witch her father had once called her.
