    Pretty much try to avoid everything that's not scanned. Scans most of the time means the work has been published and thus, is not fanart anymore :3

    I understand this all and have been going through my work and also deleting what I was unsure of as fanart or not. My question to you though is, if I have the permission from the original artists of the fanworks, to use their art in my wallpapers/cards whatever, Do I still have to remove that, or are they allowed since I have permission?

    It also helps to deliberately search for artbooks and manga scans. Instead of just blindly using google or sites that have lots of images but nothing indicating if it's a scan from a particular artbook or not.

    @Romanos Vixen:

    DA means Deviantart?
    Then no, obviously no. Deviantart is full of fanart, images who are deleted on the spot here. Make an account on these 2 sites:
    Minitokyo
    Animpaper
    The stuff there is alright to use, don't go to Google images, there are lots of wallpapers and fanarts there.
    Just stick to the sites I mentioned and you'll be fine.
