Nemuri Netarou Awararu!! by AMANO Akira

I stumbled upon this after someone on Minitokyo made a tag for it and, of all things, I wanted to find out the last name of the girl XD After flipping through pages randomly, it started to look intriguing, so I gave it a shot~

Synopsis
Tonko Aoba and her family have just moved to a new house again, due to her father's work schedule. Because of this, she gets frequent nightmares, especially about her new classmates ignoring or bullying her.

That night, she tries to fall asleep only to realize she's actually under sleep paralysis (the body is asleep but the mind is wide awake). She starts hearing footsteps and a strange voice and suddenly finds herself face to face with...a pervert who comments on her flat chest! Tonko manages to break out of her paralysis and screams, alerting her parents. Unfortunately, the pervert manages to escape.

The next day, Tonko comes across a shop with signs advertising to cure nightmares. Inside, she meets a handsome man...and the pervert from the previous night...who turn out to be the same person! He is Netarou Nemuri, a specialist in curing people's sleeping problems. Tonko is skeptical and tries to leave, but Netarou forcibly takes her with him into the world of her nightmares and shows her surprising new information...

Thoughts
Speaking as someone who hasn't read anything else by Akira Amano, it was very enjoyable! Good blend of action and comedy, and it was especially refreshing to see main characters (boy and girl) who didn't fall in love or even get along (more like tolerate each other)! Tonko is stubborn and witty, while Netarou is more similar to an asshole hero than a princely one (despite his cute/handsome looks which would have you believe otherwise); it's fun to see the two of them argue.

The most intriguing part was probably the look into the dream world and its inhabitants; with more information revealed along the way and working towards building a bigger picture, some parts would definitely make for interesting ethical questions (unfortunately, I can't name any because that would mean spoilers ^^"). The ending was satisfactory too, though it does take a false direction into the typical "I wonder what happened to him/her" territory...only to turn around and finish on the same note of humor as the beginning of the story.

Weak points
Despite the art being mostly clean and attractive, some parts are difficult to make out (battle scenes especially) because of various artistic "enhancements" (wisps, smoke?, debris flying around.
Also, maybe the story would've benefited more from more ethical ambiguity in regards to the world of dreams vs. the real world and the inhabitants of each. This happens around the middle of the story, but by the end there's no question or shadow of doubt as to who the good guys and bad guys are.

All in all, I'd say it's worth a read. Standing at ~50 pages, it's not time consuming and the art is lovely and clean.
